    Another puzzler

What Interstate is only about 1000 miles long, but runs from the east coast to the west (I might be a smidge off on milage). This is actually kind of a dumb one.

Death of Common Sense: A Story

A story to share: THE DEATH OF AN OLD FRIEND --- Today we mourn the passing of an old friend, by the name of Common Sense. Common Sense lived a long life but died recently in the United States. No one really knows how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic...

    Expeditor's delight

Somebody should bundle all these great poems, and publish them as an expediters poem book or something. There are a bunch of talented people in this group. Stay safe out there! :D

    New Hours of Service Regs

My husband is selling his truck so we can buy another van. He doesn't see any way to make it as a single in a truck when the new rules go into effect. Even taking sleeper berth time in the middle of the "on the clock time" won't help much, especially as most runs are straight through. As for...

    Getting Started

To my knowledge, no one uses p/us in expediting. Local courier companies might. Don't just jump into expediting. Look in the classifieds here to see who is looking for a driver. Drive for them a while, just to get the feel of it. Can you handle sitting for 3-4 days between loads? It can get...

    driver-license fee,s

My CDL is up for renewal in January. Last time I renewed, it was $64. I don't know what is required for the license this time. I do have to go take my haz-mat test soon. Stay safe out there! :-)

Cargo Van vs. Local Company Driver

I agree. If you have a decent paying local job, stay with it. I've had one good week this year (last week) and made $2156.00. I've had 5 weeks with no freight at all (so no pay at all). The rest of the weeks have been <$1000/week (sometimes much less). Now is definately not the time to get...

    I'm BORED

So where is freight running well? I talked to a Panther van yesterday (4/30) in OH (slightly south of Columbus) and he said freight was really slow. The FedEx CC driver my husband talked to last week said the same thing. Are there really people running a lot now? I'm under the impression...

    ouil and expediting!!!

Where is the van freight really good right now? I am under the impression it is kind of stagnant right now. What company has plenty of van freight? I'm really curious! Stay safe out there!

    Carrier Outsourcing

How much of the Canadian outsourcing is due to drivers refusing to go to Canada? I realize in-bound freight wouldn't be, but what about the outbound? Stay safe out there!

    Canada canada

Landstar doesn't require Canada, although they prefer that drivers would go there. Stay safe out there!

    Fuel Surcharge

Our company, the fuel surcharge goes totally to the owner of the truck, or whoever gets the weekly settlements. If the owwner has a driver working for him, I don't know that they always pass it on. Stay safe out there!

Is Expediting in vans becoming becoming extinct?

RE: Expediting vans becoming extinct? <<the agent would stretch the truth & tell the Driver that this particular load was a B unit load, BUT he has been authorized to pay a little more on it to entice the D unit to do it.>> I know the national accounts have no room in which to play with the...

    Empty Miles

Ok, so since I drive a cargo van, registered less than 10,000lbs, I can deduct my deadhead miles? Or is that *only* if I do *not* deduct my expenses? Sorry to jump in on the conversation, but I am foggy on this point. Stay safe out there!

I'd like to second checking out Bentz in Ft. Wayne. They are very good about honoring their warranty without a fuss, and they work on the truck promptly. We will specifically get a Bentz sleeper on our next truck. Stay safe out there!

    considering lea

LEA tries to treat its BCO's (Business Capacity Owners) well. If you need hand-holding (ex: where to layover, what route to take, how to do things) such as what Roberts used to do, LEA is not the place to go. You have to make your own decisions. It can take 4-6 months to start doing well...

    Software

Hi All, I hope everyone is off to a great start this year! I just read the homepage story about computer software here at expeditersonline, and I was wondering: does anyone here use any of the software mentioned in the article? If so, what do you think of it? If not, what do you use? Right...

Is Expediting in vans becoming becoming extinct?

RE: Expediting vans becoming extinct? My husband and I have a D and a B unit. If a B unit isn't around, and they have to put it on a D, the rate does go up. Maybe not as high as normal D rates, but higher than B. Usually a C rate. Stay safe out there! Stay safe out there!
