Meet the new Expediting Truck Specialist at Freightliner of Knoxville
One of the mid-South's premier truck dealerships recently made an addition to its staff of knowledgeable truck consultants.
Introducing - Jon Mosier.
Jon, who hails from Indianapolis, has a long history in expediting, working with two of the largest companies in the emergency freight business.
Personal history
Jon is a 20-year US Army veteran, spending the first 12 years of his time in the service as an electronics mechanic. For the last 8 years of his Army stint, he was a National Guard recruiter in the Indianapolis area.
"I retired from the military in 1991, and in '92, I joined Roberts Express as a recruiter," Jon says. "After that, I went to Con-Way NOW in 1996, where over the next two years, I developed the recruiting program, the literature, etc. I was quite a jack of all trades there - I even conducted the orientations."
"Following my time with Con-Way NOW, I accepted a recruiting position with Triple Crown Services, an intermodal carrier owned by Norfolk Southern railroad. In the year 2000, I began with Freight Masters out of Minnesota.
Jon says that after his association with Freight Masters ended, he felt that he needed a break from the transportation business for a while. Jon and his wife had been involved in the restaurant business as far back as his days with Roberts Express, when the couple built a large Pizza King franchise in Franklin, IN.
"My wife and I have built and sold a few restaurants over the last three years; as a matter of fact, I was in restaurant management when the opportunity at Freightliner of Knoxville presented itself."
A happily married man of 25 years (he married his high school sweetheart), he's also a proud father and grandfather. "My wife and I have a 26 year old daughter and a son who is 25 years old. Our daughter has a 4 year old daughter and a one year old son."
Jon's mechanical pride and joy sits in his garage - a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner that sports a 426 Hemi motor with twin 4-barrels running through a Hurst 4-speed. He was just 17 when he purchased it brand new for $6,000; it's worth just a tad more today.
He says he's had a lot of offers for it, but has resisted the temptation to sell, at least up to now. The car, which is now only driven on the occasional Sunday, has 16,000 miles on the clock.
Jon has had a passion for muscle-type cars including a '69 Chevelle 396 that he used as a family car and he says "When I came back from my first tour of Germany, I took the major portion of my re-enlistment bonus and bought a bright orange '73 Pontiac Trans Am 455 SD. I wound up selling that car two years later for twice what I paid for it."
New opportunities
Jon says he is looking forward to his role as the expedited truck specialist for the Tennessee truck dealership. "I'm very excited to join the team here at Freightliner of Knoxville! They've been a major force in the expediting truck business for many years now and I've been fortunate to have developed a great relationship with them since the early '90's."
"When Freightliner first introduced the FL 60's and FL 70's back in 1993, there were many Roberts Express contractors who came to Freightliner of Knoxville for their new trucks."
"I feel I can contribute a great deal here in the area of customer service. I believe that I can help the owner/operators in the expediting industry because I know what their needs and concerns are. Another great plus of being part of this dealership is their impeccable reputation for customer support - Freightliner of Knoxville will not put a customer in a sub-standard truck."
Jim McFerrin, New Truck Sales Manager says, "We're very glad to have Jon on board here at Freightliner of Knoxville! He's been involved with expediting for a number of years; he truly knows the business and the equipment requirements of the expedited carriers."
"Jon also has the ability to establish a bond of trust with people, and because of his unique background in expediting, he can assist those expediting owner/operators in finding the right equipment at the right price."
Gary Conleay, General Sales Manager of Freightliner of Knoxville says, "Jon has lots of experience on the recruiting side of the business and he understands the equipment part of expediting. Jon has spent a great deal of time with us in spec'ing out the expediting trucks we offer."
"In addition, Jon also possesses people skills; part of that is his ability to listen to customers and to determine what they need. There are many people in the truck sales business who know trucks, but it's difficult to find people who also know expediting. Jon is that man."
