Landstar Express America Presents: "Getting Back to the Basics"
Special Note
It's with great sadness that Expediters Online.com reports the passing of Mr. Bill McCloud, Landstar Express America Independent Recruiting and Retention Agent.
Mr. McCloud, who was in his mid-50's, succumbed to a massive coronary while at home with his family on Sunday, November 23rd. His family informs us that his passing was peaceful and without pain.
"Bill was an individual who brought class, integrity and professionalism into everything he has done," says Darin Mark, LEA Director of Recruiting. "The industry has lost a tremendous person and Landstar has suffered a real blow. We've lost a man who brought great ideas and excitement to our business and many people in expediting, including myself, have lost a good friend."
"Bill was a very spiritual man who loved his family, and when we met a few short months ago, our friendship just clicked. You couldn't help but like the man and I'll miss him very much."
Mr. McCloud had served as an expediting recruiter for many years, including a lengthy stint with Roberts Express/FedEx Custom Critical before joining Landstar this past summer. He had been scheduled to attend the Landstar event in Nashville on November 24.
Messages of condolence for the family should be sent to:

On Monday, November 24, Landstar Express America will present a seminar/educational opportunity about the expediting business.
The event is open to anyone with an interest in expediting - current expediting owner-operators, prospective owner-operators and the corporate personnel of this industry.
"We want to give people information about the expediting business, particularly in light of what promises to be a great 2004," says Landstar's Darin Mark, organizer of the event.
"Yes, Landstar will be presenting the seminar, but we want this to be so much more than a recruiting event. We welcome anyone with an interest in expediting, including company personnel from other carriers."
The seminar will commence with guest speakers addressing topics of interest to its expediting/trucking audience.
-Lawrence McCord, the General Manager of Expediters Online.com, the industry's number one resource for expediting news and information, will provide an overview of where expediting has come from and what it's future might hold.
-Jon Zetterberg, an independent sales agent will discuss selling to shippers in the expedited market today. Subtopics will include:
*Why do customers use expedited carriers?
*What are the customers' expectations from the carriers?
*What are the primary complaints from customers that might jeopardize future business?
*What can an owner-operator do to protect the account?
-The seminar will also feature Ms. Lisa Rouse, a representative from the Tennessee Department of Transportation who will offer a presentation on the new HOS regulations.
"Ideally," Darin Mark says, "we can present these get-togethers on a quarterly basis, with different topics and themes at each meeting."
