If you're like me, the glare from the morning or afternoon sun can drive you crazy!  With my light-sensitive eyes, the blinding light that defeats the typical car or truck sun visor posed a real danger to myself and others.  I searched for a long time for an aftermarket product that would attach to or replace the OEM visors, but I never found a suitable device.

Until now...

The Wiser Visor is a hinged sun guard that attaches to a vehicle's visor and extends down up to five inches.

It blocks 99% of the sun's harmful UV rays and allows drivers to look through a distortion-free tinted shield for safer driving ability, says Skunes Manufacturing of Arthur, ND.

The Wiser Visorâ„¢ will fit on virtually any car, truck, SUV, or RV. It simply clips onto your present visor, adjusts up, down and sideways wherever you need it so you don't have to stretch your neck or squint your eyes while driving. It has a full 11'' of side to side travel.

The *New* Wiser Visor II'sâ„¢ Sliding Hot Spot Shield protects your eyes from even the most intense sun. The hot spot shield slides the full length of the visor as the sun moves along the horizon.

The company also produces an "RV"-sized shield for "larger windshields".

Pricing starts at $18.95 for the "original" Wiser Visor.

cd_software.jpgProMiles® XF® Version 10

ProMiles Software Development Corporation (PSDC) has announced that Version 10 of the popular ProMiles software application is available for download from the company's website.

Introduced at the Mid-America Trucking Show in March, this new software is "bigger and better than ever," says a company representative.

While the Version 10 database contains new information including 2004 ZIP codes, new road restrictions, new construction and other items, the major difference to the user is in increased functionality, says the company. There are more ways to enter locations and more options in adding custom locations than ever before.

ProMiles® XF® has also augmented the information that can be viewed via their maps by adding such things as custom user locations, updated rest & parking areas & TripPak locations in addition to previous options such as displaying specific truck stop chains, editing the color scheme, state weigh scales and fuel purchase optimization results.

"Fuel Purchase Optimization has become a significant consideration for the majority of our users, especially in the last year," notes Chris Lee, Project Manager for PSDC. "With most trips allowing the user to save at least $0.04 per gallon, and some users reporting that they are getting savings over $0.12 per gallon, the bottom line for even a owner/operator can be affected very quickly.

"Being able to provide the most comprehensive data on the market, in an easy to use format, has allowed users that could not cost justify a system like this previously to come on board with the most advanced system on the market."

More information on the features of ProMiles XF® is available on the PSDC website (www.ProMiles.com) or by calling PSDC directly (800-324-8588) and asking for a free trial CD.

eagleeye.jpgEagle Eyeâ„¢ Obstacle Detection System

We’ve all seen it: the woman with a cell phone in one hand and mascara in the other, streaking down the highway in a Miata. This time, an Eagle Eye™ caught her in its vision before an accident happened. A local service driver, warned by Eagle Eye™ Obstacle Detection System, paid attention to the beeping sounds and visual display alerting him to the danger his eyes missed. Instead of changing lanes, the driver saved a life.

The Eagle Eyeâ„¢ Obstacle Detection System was tested on 70 local service trucks for 10 weeks in an extensive trial of the system. Weekly evaluation reports from drivers revealed a startling result.

“There were 175 “yes” answers to the question, ‘Did it help you prevent an accident?” In 10 short weeks Eagle Eyeâ„¢ prevented 175 accidents and paid for itself on 70 trucks.  "The cost of just fender benders would more than pay for Eagle Eye," says a company representative.

One driver in the test reported that a man standing behind him, talking on the phone, did not hear the exterior backing alarm (beeping) warning alert. With Eagle Eye™ detection, he avoided crushing the man’s legs between his car and the truck.

All vehicles have blind areas where driver’s cannot see pedestrians or other vehicles.  The Eagle Eyeâ„¢ system consists of up to 7 sensors mounted around the truck, wherever the driver needs them, and a single driver alert module (DAM) inside the cab.

Eagle Eyeâ„¢ sensors alert drivers to what is behind and beside their vehicles. Drivers are equipped with a new way to see everything from lap-size dogs to careless teens zipping past.

This system alerts a driver to any object within 10 feet of his vehicle to help avoid colliding with it. TST also designs, manufactures, and sells a wide array of electronic components for the trucking industry and other industries that utilize all types of trucks.
