Truckers urged to call in, support ‘Jason’s Law’ on Oct. 28

Hope Rivenburg is urging the trucking industry to once again come together and flood their lawmakers’ offices with phone calls and emails in support of two Jason’s Law bills that have been reintroduced in the U.S. House and Senate.

The national call-in day is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28, which would have been Jason Rivenburg’s 38th birthday.

It’s been more than two years since trucker Jason Rivenburg was fatally shot while parked in his truck cab. And for most of that time, his widow, Hope Rivenburg of Fultonville, NY, has been pounding the phones and making trips to Washington, DC, to meet with lawmakers.

She is urging truckers to call the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee at 202-225-9446 and let them know you support HR1803 , which would create a grant program to increase the number of safe truck parking spots.

So far more than 26 cosponsors have signed on to the bipartisan bill, which was introduced by U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-NY.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, reintroduced his Jason’s Law bill – S1187 – to address the shortages of long-term parking for commercial vehicles along the nation’s highways. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY, is a co-sponsor to the bill, which has been referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
