July (2015) – In 2014, The Expedite Association of North America (TEANA) implemented its Verification of Insurance (VOI) Program. When TEANA's VOI program began, the TEANA Board of Directors thought that the number of Motor Carriers operating with inadequate insurance was approximately 20% of the carrier pool. However, through the VOI process they learned that percentage was much higher.

In the Spring and Summer of 2015, TEANA started receiving many applications that were not 100% accurate. Unfortunately, we have encountered major problems in educating carriers and verifying coverage under our current procedures. The TEANA Board of Directors has listened and heard the expediting community's concerns loud and clear. In an effort to maintain integrity, we decided to suspend the program for the time being. TEANA's VOI committee, consisting of ten volunteer members, had a huge challenge when they started discovering discrepancies. Over the last several weeks the TEANA Board of Directors, under the guidance of our legal counsel, has been working on expanding the program fundamentals into something that the entire Expediting Community can easily utilize.

We believe Brokers, Shippers and 3PLs will love this new concept that gives them more control on a day-to-day basis on individual and specific units hauling their freight. TEANA is currently completing the details of this new program and we look forward to sharing more information with you once completed.
