Stuart Sutton Announces Retirement from Sylectus

Industry leader leaves indelible impact on expedite trucking community

In an email to customers and partners last week, Stuart “Stu” Sutton, founder and president of Sylectus (www.sylectus.com), a provider of cloud-based technology for expedited trucking companies to run their operations more profitably, announced that his last day of full-time work at the company will be July 30, 2014. Sutton will continue serving Sylectus on a part-time consulting basis “providing continued thought leadership.”

Sutton and co-founder Ed DeLeon launched Sylectus in 2001. After the company sold to Omnitracs, a division of Qualcomm at the time, in February 2011, Sutton stayed on to run the business unit.

“After 13 years, the business has matured and become very stable,” Sutton said. “Sylectus is in a very good place and continues to grow in both customers and products. So it is time for me to step aside and let the well-seasoned team at Sylectus take it to higher levels.”  

Ed DeLeon, vice president of information technology, and Kimberly Drouillard, director of sales and implementation, “two long-time, well-respected and knowledgeable Sylectus generals will be moving the company forward,” Sutton wrote. “Both will report to their respective C-Level leaders within [parent company] Omnitracs, giving Sylectus greater market exposure and a stronger voice within the Omnitracs enterprise, yet they will maintain the entrepreneurial, nimble business footprint that has helped make Sylectus successful.”

As Sutton retires from Sylectus, his impact will continue to be felt throughout the expedite industry. “Stu was the man who convinced competitors in our industry that by working together and developing trust they could achieve greater results,” said John Elliott, chief executive officer for Load One LLC (www.load1.com), a transportation and logistics firm based in Taylor, Mich. “At the time it was considered a crazy concept; today it’s the industry norm.”
