Panther's Third Annual 'Drive to Fill the Truck'

Panther Expedited Services has announced their holiday plans to "Drive to Fill the Truck" for the third year in a row. The annual drive, an event created by Panther to raise both money and donations, supports the Toys for Tots charity.

Toys for Tots is a mission of the US Marine Corps Reserve where new, unwrapped toys are collected each year and distributed as Christmas gifts to needy children in local communities. Started in 1947, the organization has donated more than 400 million toys in all 50 states.

In 2009, Panther joined the Toys for Tots mission by creating the "Drive to Fill the Truck" campaign. President and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Clarke and Chief Information Officer Ed Wadel drove a sprinter van for a week. The profits earned from the shipments were donated to Toys for Tots. A Panther tradition had begun.

The following year, Andy secured his Commercial Driver's License, allowing him to operate a larger, 22-foot straight truck. Working with owner-operator Lyn Brumfield, the pair traveled around the eastern United States. Despite the record snowstorms that they encountered, Clarke, Brumfield and Panther Expedited Services surpassed their fundraising goals by nearly $20,000.

This year, Andy's adventure will kick off on November 28th, 2011. Joined again by owner-operator Lyn Brumfield, the two will travel the United States transporting freight for Panther's many customers. Andy will also be journaling his experience using Twitter and Facebook.

In addition to the "Drive to Fill the Truck" campaign, Panther will also be celebrating their annual Holiday Event on December 11th, 2011. Panther is an official drop site for Toys for Tots, so new, unwrapped toys will be accepted starting November 12th through December 16th 2011. Each donation will be honored with free popcorn, coffee, hot cocoa and cookies. Face painting and a Christmas craft table will be available for children. In addition, Santa Claus will be making an appearance, posing for photos by the Christmas tree.
