An Iowa State Patrol accident report confirms what witnesses said about a fatal crash involving five tractor-trailers Tuesday morning, Feb. 16.

The report says four of the trucks were at a complete standstill in the right-hand, southbound lane of I-29 at mile marker 74 when the fifth truck slammed into them from the rear, causing a chain-reaction crash.

However, a spokeswoman told Land Line Now on Thursday that the patrol is “not disclosing” why the trucks were stopped. Asked if they had been stopped by law enforcement, she declined to comment, but said that “several theories” are being investigated.

The driver who was killed in the crash was 62-year-old Karl Krueger of Souix Falls, SD. Krueger, who once ran for president of the United States, was driving the truck that rear-ended the others.
