MacroPoint to deliver the Holy Grail of Logistics at the Expedite Expo.
MacroPoint LLC, a transportation technology provider based in Cleveland, Ohio, is set to release their newest breakthrough in location tracking technology that will change the transportation industry as we know it. On July 22nd, at the Expedite Expo in Wilmington, Ohio, MacroPoint will unveil their network of 8.5 million drivers who can share their location with carriers and logistics providers.
MacroPoint’s new system, for the first time in industry history, will enable ubiquitous location of nearly all the transportation vehicles on the road. The significance of the new system will allow shippers, carriers, and logistic providers to have full visibility of their freight across private fleets, 3rd party agencies, and owner operators. Bennett Adelson, president of MacroPoint says “having accurate and real time location information available from this critical mass of vehicles now allows the industry to go beyond just location tracking, and allows for true optimization and matching of the supply and demand of freight and vehiclesâ€
MacroPoint has also brought a new pricing model to the transportation mobile-com market by charging for their technology on a pay-per-use basis. Instead of the typical two year contract commitments required by other mobile-com providers, MacroPoint has chosen to price their product on a per load basis. Benjamin Derin, National Sales Manager for MacroPoint says “we’ve positioned this technology so that it’s affordable to all sized carriers, customers will only pay for the amount that they use, and they can keep their technology costs in-line with their revenue cyclesâ€.
In addition to meeting the price point demands of customers, MacroPoint has also embraced the driver community and their demands for privacy. While many drivers that use traditional tracking technology feel like big brother is watching and resist traditional in-cab units, MacroPoint is winning drivers over by allowing them to hide their location while not on-duty during an active load shipment.
The technology behind MacroPoint was under development for over 3 years before being perfected and released to a short list of customers for testing earlier this year. The system works via provisioning a software application to a driver’s cell phone. However, unlike other cell phone based products that only works on smartphones, MacroPoint’s technology works on most all standard cell phones including smartphones, flip phones, and even the most basic older models of inexpensive cell phones that are most typically carried by drivers.
