Four Cure convoys raise more than $100,000; one more to roll
So far, four Convoy for a Cure events have raised more than $100,000 for breast cancer research in Canada and the United States. The final one is set to roll from Cornwall, Ontario, on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Two convoys were hosted on Saturday, Oct. 16, including one in Terrell, TX, organized by OOIDA Life Member Cindy Stowe, who raised more than $13,000 at her event. She is already in planning mode for next year’s event, which will be on Oct. 22, 2011, at the Texas Motor Speedway.
The Ontario-West Cure convoy rolled from Dorchester, Ontario, on Oct. 16, and was organized by Joanne Millen Mackenzie, a 19-year trucking veteran. She had 33 trucks and raised more than $36,000 for breast cancer.
Mackenzie said she became involved in the convoy because she is a breast cancer survivor and recently lost an aunt to the disease.
“This disease runs in my family, so I wanted to help in some way to raise money and honor my auntie that we lost to breast cancer,†she said.
The Cure-Atlantic region convoy from Salisbury, New Brunswick, to Aulac, NB, on Oct. 9 raised more than $40,000. The event was organized by Roxanne Doran Smith.
The Second Annual Alberta Convoy for a Cure, which rolled on Saturday, Sept. 25, raised approximately $15,000, and was organized by Kristin McCallum.
“I don’t think any of us envisioned how being involved in these convoys would affect us. It’s been life-changing,†Stowe said.
