KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ford Motor Co. said that the federal estimated fuel economy ratings for the new full-size 2015 Transit vans could be from 19-46% better than some current E-Series models, depending on the configuration.

Ford announced Environmental Protection Agency-estimated fuel economy ratings of 14 mpg city/19 mpg highway for the 2015 model-year low- and mid-roof Transit vans with either the 3.7-liter or 3.5-liter gasoline engines. Depending on the configuration, those ratings represent at least up to 19% improvement over the 13 mpg/16 mpg estimated ratings of the E-Series with its standard 4.6L V-8 engine, Ford said. The possible fuel savings jump to 46% when comparing a 2015 standard-spec’d van and EcoBoost 3.5L engine with an E-Series powered by a 6.8L V-10 engine.

Power comes from three engine choices, including the standard 3.7-Liter V-8 gasoline (rated at 265 horsepower/260 pound-feet of torque), the 3.5L EcoBoost (310/400) and a new 3.2L Power Stroke diesel (185/350).

Ford introduced the full line of Transit vans at a press event here June 5.

The Transit is replacing the venerable E-Series van that has been in Ford’s stable for 53 years.

The 2015 Transit will be available in four body styles (van, cutaway, wagon and chassis cab), three roof heights (low, medium, high) three body lengths and two wheelbases. Production began at Ford’s Kansas City plant April 30.
