WASHINGTON— The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has scheduled a public listening session on its proposed changes to hours-of-service requirements, the agency said Friday.

The public listening session will be held Feb.17 in Arlington, Va. To encourage maximum public participation, the entire listening session will be webcast live at www.fmcsa.dot.gov , FMCSA said.

Additionally, as part of the webcast, FMCSA officials will take online comments and questions from the public from noon to midnight Eastern Standard Time.

The goal of the listening session is to gather a broad range of comments, ideas and relevant data as the agency analyzes responses to its HOS regulatory proposal issued on Dec. 23, 2010.

Hours-of-service requirements are designed to help prevent commercial vehicle-related accidents, injuries and fatalities by prescribing on-duty hours and rest periods for commercial drivers.

The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Washington National Airport, 1480 Crystal Drive in Arlington, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
