August Class 8 sales for major U.S. OEMs up 15.5% from July, down 26.1% from 2015

August Class 8 truck sales for major U.S. manufacturers increased 15.5 percent from July to 16,262, according to a recent report from WardsAuto, but decreased 26.1 percent from the same month last year. Year-to-date, sales are down 20.2 percent through August, at 134,505.

Freightliner led all manufacturers in August with sales of 6,127, WardsAuto reported. This represented a 25.9 percent decrease from August 2015. Kenworth placed next with 2,516, down 30.1 percent from last year. Peterbilt was third, with 2,260, a 25.6 percent decrease. Following were International, 1,967, down 18.3 percent; Volvo, 1,696, down 32.2 percent; Mack, 1,292, down 26.8 percent and Western Star, 386, down 4.9 percent.

Freightliner also leads for the year, with 53,098, a 16 percent drop from the first eight months of 2015. Next was Kenworth, 19,531, down 22.4 percent. Following were Peterbilt, 18,128, down 19.1 percent; International, 14,889, down 28.4 percent; Volvo, 13,767, down 33.7 percent; Mack, 11,640, down 10.3 percent and Western Star, 3,369, an increase of 7.7 percent.
