You knew it was coming. DOT bans handheld cell phones in trucks.

If "reaching for" a cell phone is illegal, then reaching for anything should be illegal as well. No more coffee, soda water, snacks, food, cigarettes, maps, GPS, or significant others, unless you're out of the driver's seat! Great idea . . . NOT!

It will all come about. It is all about revenue. More laws, more tickets, more money. It is so simple.

My hands free works thru the radio of my Volvo.I hear good and they here me also, but I still have to dial the number. When in blue tooth mode with the Volvo radio, the voice command doesnt work.I have 2 phones,I use my sprint phone mostly for the gps thats in it.THe verizon is for talking, and thats all,I have everything else blocked.
Now since I cant hold my phone, what about my CB mic?
Can I call in on 4 wheelers that are puttting on lipstick in the morning,or combing their hair,Or how about that driver that is getting what Clinton said was not sex

And to think this all pretty well started with the harmless seatbelt law.. They got their foot in the door of your privacy, and it has been one thing after another ever since...

NO,this started with the radar detector law.The year before they decided to take the radar detectors out of trucks, every truck stop had information where to call in to explain why you needed the radar detector. There were so many calls to the government, that it was postponed, until our government figured out, most of these calls came from non registered voters. You cant hurt the government if you dont vote,so the following year, good bye radar detectors.
Same with the cell phones,if you arent regestered to vote, you dont have a say in what your government does to you

A lot of states have no handheld laws anyway, therefore, this should be no big deal for truck drivers.

I keep hearing that politicians check to see if your a registered voter, can anyone prove that statement or did they hear it at the TS BS counter, where everyone tries and out do the other.

I will be a bit more willing to believe that DOT & FMCSA are serious about safety when they address the number one distraction I face very day while driving a truck: searching for street addresses.
Until then, it's all about justifying their own existence [budget] and generating revenue.

Well NO one NEEDS a radar detector..except those intending to break the law and speed...

You all can whine all ya want...fact remains..no cell phone use for trucks....

I was just watching my local news. They told of a bad wreck that happened yesterday afternoon and there was a 8 year old in one of the cars. They give an update tonite on it and said the driver lost control of the car,hit a truck then hit a pole while she was TEXTING and not paying attention where she was going.

Why don't they look into something like this:rolleyes:. An 8 year old dead because of the driver NOT paying attention:eek:.really sad.
I'm in one of my moods tonite ,please excuse me if I make any one mad. I hate any time the tailholes tries to tell us what is best for us when they won't come to the real world where we are.

The problem is, the DOT and FMCSA cannot regulate passenger cars with law like this. It's up to the states.

Turtle, not trying to be smart, that was what i meant in my last sentance.think about it, the cars has to pass DOT specs too.Goes back though to driver negligence.

Laws are a lot like money, the more of them you have the less valuable each one becomes. It has reached the point that the everyday population is just ignoring them. There are so many laws it has become impossible to enforce them.

after the passing of this law, law enforcement does however deserve to be inundated with hands free phone calls to 911 to report distracted driving by the public motoring community. they should also be made aware of our state, county and local law enforcement doing things that are distracting or non law enforcement related. while we are at it, report them for all the speeding and other stuff they do which we all gripe about.

i have personally decided that it is important to do this. two weeks ago in columbus, oh we were at a station and two local police tore out of it no lights or sirens through a busy intersection where their light was red and screamed down the road outta sight. next morning watching the news " police car involved in accident " rite down the road from where we were at an intersection. no tickets issued at the time but i also could not find anymore info on the story. just disappeared into thin air. imagine that.

this is one of those thing like calling your local politician that we all need to do. if they get a constant stream of complaints they might actually take notice.

Don't you just love! Using a cell is too dangerous for us, but cops can drive down the road typing on laptops!

I purchased a Blue Parrott B250xt bluetoothe headset and I LOVE it! I can hear the caller LOUD and clear and am told they can hear me loud and clear as well with NO echo. I wish I would have purchased this headset a long time ago but had already purchased many that were junk so was skeptical of spending another $99.

Between my Blackberry's Voice Recognition and the Blue Parrott B250xt headset and a window mount for my phone, hands free dialing and talk is hassle free. :)

Thanks, VanMAn10
i found it @ StockMan's truck stop for 78$.
and paired it with my CellPhone.
just made the first call, and it worked well.
however my cell cannot recognized when i just try to dial a number by talking to it.
in my line of work, so many times i need to call a new number that is not preprogramed into the phone, and in many cases i will not use that number more then a few times.

AT&T store wanted 450$ for the I-Phone-4.
(and craigslist 300$ or more, then i will need to take it to the 'Brake my phone' store in uptown Minnie., and won't have a taxable receipt).
i am willing to spend the money, to stay in compliance, but fear the I-4 is by now an old technology soon to be replaced.

my question is:
can the smart phone dial a number by talking to it and simply saying the number ?
