You knew it was coming. DOT bans handheld cell phones in trucks.

As much as i hate the gov protecting the masses, i really don't have an issue with this...and yea, there really is no reason to hold a phone and drive....now if i can just find the little foam filter that covers the mic for my blue Parrot, id be good to go...

That makes a lot of sense. It's like saying, "As much as I hate dogs farting, this one actually smells good." You don't use your phone while your headset is charging? You can't legislate common sense. And, BTW, if it's so needed in the trucking world, it's really, really, REALLY needed in the carring world.

That is great. Does this apply for hands free or headsets too. Yes I am assuming

From what I've read, hands free / headsets are ok. So phone in holder on dash, speakerphone, bluetooth, etc.

I love it. Now if they'd only do the same for 4 wheelers.

I'd say more distracted are the women who fly by in morning traffic, visor down, putting on eye make up... or the guys who shave in the visor mirror while flying by

So this is based on what data?

Greg, at the second link they have some of the data... here's the one I have a prob with... I can see the prob with one handed driving, etc... but this language is very strict.

From section A

......proposes to restrict the use of hand-held mobile telephones because our research indicates that they are a source of driver distraction that could pose a safety risk. Specifically it would prohibit a CMV driver from reaching for, holding, or dialing a mobile telephone in order to conduct a voice communication while driving. Essentially, the CMV driver must be ready to conduct a voice communication in compliance with the proposed rule the moment he begins driving the vehicle.

So it is like the sleep apnea thing, no real hard proof that this has caused carnage on the roads but they are going to make the rule and than see what happens.

Reading the second link, I noticed that like the NTSB report of the truck accident, they overlooked a few things and used only some data from accidents. In the NTSB report, the texting was a problem but not the root cause of the accident, the lack of proper sleep was coupled with a falsified log book and no where is that talked about with the FMCSA.

I can touch a button on my blue tooth, say a name (pre programmed for most frequent calls). Voice recognition, i think it's called. Most newer phones have the feature.

I purchased a Blue Parrott B250xt bluetoothe headset and I LOVE it! I can hear the caller LOUD and clear and am told they can hear me loud and clear as well with NO echo. I wish I would have purchased this headset a long time ago but had already purchased many that were junk so was skeptical of spending another $99.

Between my Blackberry's Voice Recognition and the Blue Parrott B250xt headset and a window mount for my phone, hands free dialing and talk is hassle free. :)

I have purchased a headset. I had purchased the older type Bluetooth that stick in the ear but found them not only uncomfortable but the other person couldn't hear me well. Any suggestions on a good affordable headset
