As Diane and I learn about these AED's (automatic external defibrillator), (we'll have one in the fitness club we're opening), we're also learning that dead batteries are an issue. People mount these devices on the wall but sometimes forget about them and fail to maintain them as time passes.
Expediters can help by looking at the devices when you see them. If you see a low battery indication, notify security or the manager of the facility where the AED is mounted. It would be terrible for someone to deploy an AED in an emergency only to find it useless when needed.
You may never know it, but it might happen that you save a life, not by deploying the AED yourself, but by prompting others to replace the battery so it works when it is deployed.
