on the personal side...never took debating in school.....haven't a clue about the do and don'ts of quotes and the like...I see enough of this crap on the daily news...don't need to learn it on an EXPEDITE site....this site should be about expedite...want to shoot the breeze about politics? need a hobby?...go else where.... 1,000's of better sites then this...I personally get tired of refereeing disputes that run over into the general forum because of bad feelings generated in here....then again...maybe selling furniture would be a better course to kill time....
IMO the soapbox would be limited to the political disposition of DOT and FMSCA and related driving issues only.

Maybe, but if I were to debate someone, my preference would be to have someone in a related field such as expedite, verses say a group of (fill in the blank).
The camaraderie just isn't the same as proven by years on this forum.

I would TRY to debate expedite issues...leave the world to other sites....let us stick to FMSCA, HOS and state DOT issues.....

We do, it is just in a different forum. Just go back a spell and remember "the great reefer debate" or say the debate of "the van against the straights" and how the straights take all the van freight.

True...but the point is those were not "soapbox debates". Those past or maybe ongoing debates are held in other places on EO that are suited for those types of discussions.

BUT them debates have nothing to do with politics....FMSCA. HOS, and DOT issues could be soapbox material...that IS expedite related...I'd like to see world events and religion GONE from discussion...

Goodness OVM....and I was just beginning to like you.

Just like tonight, I've finished my week of running, and staring out the winder at the Flying J, wondering what a normal life would be like again. The last thing I want to think about is regs, DOT, and HOS.

Those subjects are covered for all those wishing to read about them, or a thread can be started. The only problem with soapbox IMV....is people posting the same beach all the time, and those who take things personally. Visits here remain a purpose for this poster.....and it's not always the doggone JOB.

Visits would be 5 minutes for an answer to Expedite, and I do it all the time. It remains 5 minutes, unless I can stretch it to 10, for posting why I almost grew to like someone.

As a community, I think it is good that we are able to explore, share, and debate other areas of interest. We are all connected by a common thread (no pun intended). Like davekc said it's the "soapbox". Some people may get a little more heated then would be liked or go too far and need to be dealt with on an individual basis, but for the most part, I view that as passion which I don't have a problem with. If I don't like the way a thread is going or doesn't spark an interest in me, there are many other areas that do.

Sometimes it does gets a little dry (stale) in here just talking about expediting, and a nice heated (respectful) debate wakes things up. Personally I like that about EO.

As a former Mod of another sight, I can understand the frustration that comes with such a duty. For me it sucked all the fun I was having right out of me.

I think the main key is to be respectful of each other no matter how we feel. And don't take things so personal. I'm sure my own views are different from many others here. On that note...

problem is said poster contributes nothing to the expedite community...he is very well experienced....do you see him giving advice or anything in the general forum...is he giving anything back for all the grief he causes?......if he wants a playroom there are plenty other places to go....

Not sure who this refers to....but that's a good point. I do defend faith when it seems necessary, or something's not clear. To use soapbox to ram it down people's throats, or begin threads with the idea to make a point about religion (or anything else) is not a mission anyone should be on IMV.

Create a topic and let the chips fall....agenda's are quite a different matter, agreed.
