Ya think ya got it right when..

This post ends on a high, so bare w/ me here:

My last few days in expediting have been less than great. I'm delivering local, so I often have more than one run per day.

Starting w/ my last run Thurs, they went like this:

Thurs nite: cancelled after waiting about an hour. When ya factor in a few other things, I could have been home about 2.5 hours earlier had I known the run was going to be cancelled.

Fri: First run. Went ok cept the forklift driver was going about 15-20 MPH & wasn't lined up very well. Broke the handle on the back of my Sprinter. For those who have a Sprinter, it's the handle ya hold onto when ya step up onto the back bumper. No, I'm not gonna get em to pay for it. Not exactly how to handle it except I know I'm not going to lose a major account for us over a repair my friend will do over a few beers.

Fri: 2nd Run. Cancelled. Which made the first run I got kind of a losing proposition. It was one of those runs where if ya can do 2 together, ya make out ok. Doing just the one though, while I would have done it, wasn't very profitalbe on it's own.

Fri: 3rd run. Get there & this load needed a straight truck. Lady gave the wrong size & they sent me. She felt bad. Nice lady. I felt bad for her.

Fri 4th run. Get there at 6:15PM. A lady leaving tells me it won't be ready until 7:30. I do a lot of nothing. Guy comes out & is ready to leave a lil after 7. Sees my van. Tells me "oh wow, this load was ready 10 minutes after she left" UGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! LOL!!!

Anyways, add up all those times waiting. Take the hassles of each load & add em up. It doesn't even come CLOSE to a day when I'm out on the road somewhere waiting for a load that never happens.

I'm really glad I'm signed on where I'm at. If the above is as bad as it gets, I've got things pretty good over here.

Be well,
Danny

at about 1800 10 miles from home and under 200 miles for the day
and thing that makes the different is the rollers in floor and i wouldn't have some of load i get for told weight of friday was 4500 lbs, timing was right and got load 3 times , timing is everything
short delivery , quick reload and out the door

A helpful hint on the rear Sprinter handle. When you reinstall it TURN IT AROUND so it faces the wall, you can still grab it. Change the other side as well. You'll find the freight can't get to it in this posistion. I owned my Sprinter for about five munites before I saw the factory handle is an accident waiting to happen.:p :9

"Aren't the Munites an off-shoot of the Amish"?

Yes - but they still are not allowed to drive Sprinters.

Geo,

The freight down there might be a lil different than the freight up here. I often have quite a few boxes & such. Securing those kinds of loads is often tricky at best. The rollers more often than not are an inconvenience. I think I'm going to remove them pretty soon. I appreciate the idea though.

19 stops makes me think "WOW!" I'm happy if I get 6 or 7. Then again, I work in the evenings usually. For me it's a trade off I'll take. I'm usually in the $150-300/day range w/ my loads. Milage is usually in the 200-400/day range.

Chop,

That's an awesome idea. Had I not read your post I would have simply installed it as it was & more than likely, subject the handle to another whack job!! I'm feeling a lil dense here in that I overlooked something so obvious. So I definately appreciate your suggestion. It'll be put into use.

Thanx a ton,
Danny
