But OVM, Charlie has already listed 1.5% of the days of a year, an I betcha there is probly more. There are times that it ain't smart to sit, an there are times it ain't smart to run. Each has to figgure their own "wanna" and live with it. Simple there ain't no roast goose, and every load ain't gonna be a home run.

Not every load is a home run. Most of the time I'm just trying to get on base and if there's a fat one right over the plate, then I'm swinging for the fences. If I've had a couple home runs lately, I'd be more inclined to take that cheap thing if it's headed to a good area. I try to average out what I get per mile for the whole week. That way if I get mostly good ones and one stinker, maybe one of the good ones will keep the stinker from pulling the average down too low. For the most part though, I won't touch that load. There are times, however, when taking something like that is better than staying put.

Yep, too many Adam Dunn's out here.

And that's fine with me, because I get my pick of all the loads folks turn down from their carriers, and those carriers usually pay me more to do them than they would have had to pay their own driver. So y'all can keep turning down those 200 mile runs and I'll keep doing them for $400-$600. Works for me.

Hey Flattop, before you go bashing me personally, learn how to spell, then come back and talk.
We express our opinions on here, sometimes we agree, sometimes not.
OVM and I have thrown around ideas several times and none of it was meant as an personal attack towards each other or taken that way. We express our opinions, that's all.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Try to refrain from personal attacks, read the posts, you just might learn something.....

Now back to the load, Using Saskatoon as the example. If I were to take that load, I would make sure that I received enough money taking the load into that area, that I could get back to our freight lanes without losing money deadheading out.

But if I then found a skid or five that was non expedited freight (LTL), that was half of my normal rate I would be all over it.

Lot of variables but it comes down to whether you are running a business, or trying to make a statement.

Adam Dunn can pretty much only hit home runs. It's all or nothing with that guy, home run, or strike out. Too many drivers out here like that. They only want the home runs, not realizing (or caring) that it's the singles and doubles that wins games. The Reds, for example, have led the league, and in a few cases the Majors, in home runs over the last several years, and they still stink. They don't win, they have a losing record over the last 15 years. Home runs feel good, chicks dig the long ball, but they don't win.

While you're sitting back waiting for the home runs to come, the other team is scoring a run here, a run there, and pretty soon you're down 9-0. It's usually at that point that Adam Dunn will let one rip, and girls go ga-ga, men comment about how good he is, all the while he's hitting 219 when it matters, with runners in scoring position and two outs.

It's amazing how often Adam Dunn will strike out with RISP in the early innings in a close game, but then in the 8th or 9th inning after the game is pretty much decided, he'll crank a solo shot 480 feet and people think he's a baseball god instead of the one-trick pony that he is. He's the quintessential cherry picker who feels good about only hitting the home run.

I think Dunn needs to go to Saskatoon.

Or maybe Toronto. <snicker>

Turtle should have used a hockey player so we wouldn't have to explain things to canucks.

Now that I may have understood...but I gave up hockey when they went to 12 teams....

Took Tap dancing lessons once but gave that up as well...kept falling in the sink.....;)

Dunn played for the Dayton Dragons, before he got called up to the bigs. My family went to see a few of their games. Now talk about a good time, the minors can be a great night out, and CHEAP to.

Dang just saw that I said cheap, well I guess thats staying with the subject of the thread.
