Would you?

Seeing that the senate passed closure for the the 'immigration' bill and I hear from many talk show host that this will be remembered in the 2008 election and we can vote them out of office, I would like to know how many of you, if presented with a petition to recall your senator (if they voted for this bill) would actually sign it?

I don't know that I'd sign a recall petition... but I'd sign one saying I won't be upset if anyone up or down the chain that doesn't defeat it is summarily executed.

I'm waiting to see how the next cloture vote goes this coming Thursday. Regardless of how it turns out, I'd love to see the good people of Miss. start a recall petition for Trent Lott. He would be a good first target if this bill gets out of the senate. As for a recall for one of our senators, I'd probably sign it if for no other reason just to vent.

Oh come on Leo, you are in one state that should be screaming about this.

Pilgrim, my point is that most states provide a way to recall any elected official, Michigan is one that really does not have to have a reason for a recall but it has a really bad process to get the certification done.

I think that people need to not only tell these people in the senate through writing, calling and faxing their representatives how they feel but back it up with some action. Short of Leo's point, this is the next best thing.

In the case of Michigan, Levin could have secured a passport procssing center for us, could have done more to move more military centric jobs to Michigan and could have voted against this immigration bill, but has not done a thing. The state is bleeding to death and he is more worried about the auto compaines who are moving out of the state then the people who put him in office. So seeing that he has done less for the state than he could have, waiting for an election is not the right thing to do, recalling him is. The needed signatures for a recall of Levin is 472,234 registered voters.

If they can recall a governor, why not a senator?

Levin will always be a lackey for the UAW. I have an aunt that lives in Monroe, and I know for a fact she would sign a recall for Levin in a heartbeat.

Pilgrim,
I find the UAW deserves what they get for supporting this bill. If the UAW rank and file are so stupid to listen to Gettelfinger, then if they lose their job, oh well.

If the jobs were so important to the Union, both the teamsters and the UAW, they would fight this bill every step of the way but don't.

Greg, I guess I wasn't quite direct enough with my response. I'd certainly petition to throw them out, vote against them if there were any possible alternative not worse, and not shed a tear if all of them from the top down were to drop dead tomorrow, with or without outside assistance.

I understand where he is coming from but in our society today, this is not a necessary thing. We have outlets for change, but the people seem not to want to take these paths.

I'm not promoting any specific means or method, just saying that personally I won't be upset regardless.

The word advocate seemed confusing in the context you used, freightchaser. So I looked it up on the almighty wikipedia.

An advocate is one who speaks on behalf of another, especially in a legal context.

Personally, I'm not an advocate on assassination, but lets just say the country would be better off with some of our heirarchy dead. And the lessons of such deaths would permeate throughout the Washington establishment to remind them WE THE PEOPLE are the ones they answer to. In summary, I wouldn't shed a tear if someone popped a cap in certain arses.

Ad-vo-cate; verb transitive; "to plead in favor of". So, if someone
suggested overthrowing the government, they would be "advocating" an
act that most would consider treason. Therefore, if someone advocates
killing someone, aren't they, by extension, "advocating" murder?

Hi

A good revoltion for this country would be a national workers sit down.We don't work which will get the attention of corporate America.

The other thing that we could do is a bank holiday. Its a day when nobody spends any money, you buy nothing and you don't pay any bills, also don't make any deposits on that day. No travelling of any kind just sit at home and shut off the tv and radio. A totally nonviolent protest and can not be considered treason.
