Windshield washer solution

I've been using Aqua-pel on my windshield for a year and a half now and think it's a real good product that will last for at least 6 months, the last treatment lasted 9 months.

I messed up and bought some solvent while in the Houston which was good to +32 and when it started to get cold in Ky. I bought the additive to boost the freeze point at walmart
thinking that would do the trick but at -5 it wouldn't flow so while at Espar in Romulus for 8 hours I used it up once it thawed and added cold weather solvent.

I also bought and installed those strips from it's not rocket science that kind of pop your wiper blades to remove ice build up and tomorrow I'll be getting another pair of winter blades while here in Mi.,you just can't find them everywhere.

Thanks Dakota - I should have worded that better. Not even in one of my "blonde relapse" moments would I have poured the Coke into the fluid, lol.
PS that newspaper tip is one that frugal housewives have used for many years, too, because it doesn't leave lint behind. :)

Cool, just didn't want you to mess up the washer system in your truck. Also, I believe years ago when they used a different ink in the newspapers, it would actually polish the windshield. Now they use soy ink mostly so it probably doesn't work the same, but the paper is still good for cleaning.

If buying windsheild antifreeze cleaner then go for the -40 or better (-45 etc). It costs a little more but as I said in the cdn forum the green stuff is pretty good as it doesn't freeze even at -30 travelling along. At speed you have a -15 wind chill so that has to be factored in. The shell green stuff (not sure if they have anymore) was the best as it worked at -40 while driving. Now I think there are some better ones out there but quality counts as the pump, lines and nozzles don't freeze up. I've found the winter wiper blades are best in the storms as they have covered the part above the blade so no ice can get into the parts forcing the blade off the windshield.
