Pulled into truck stop off I 69 Exit 109A signs all over said NO EXPEDITER ALLOWED So stopped at Mickey D's next to it (Which had signs too) for a burger, got it and fries to go. Was Sitting in Van eating it, an employee knocked on door said no Expediters allowed. Kind of ##### me off, so went in told manager I wanted my money back since I'm not allowed to eat in my van. After about 5 min she did give money back. Got the store number going to send it to MD's HQ's. Closest Truck stop is 30 miles away, so went to Walmart and slept.

Don't give up on Ft Wayne so easily. The no expediters sign at the T/S referes to the parking in front of the restaurant. Expediter vans may park in the rear where the big trucks park. There's a bull pen area back there where the vans park. Good restaurant across the street from the T/S (not Brandy's, the other one.)

The T/S there on 109a is actually not bad at all. The staff is friendly, the restrooms and showers are clean, and they actually have security that patrols the lot (fort waynes finest). There are alot of places to eat around that area, hotels, shopping, truck repair, ect.

I'm from Fort Wayne (no my other code name is not fort wayne), and take pride in the general hospitality that the city has towards trucker's. If you decide that you don't want to park at the T/S take exit 109b the next time, and on the left about a mile is a meijer, or exit 112a and down about a mile is a walmart and they will allow big trucks. Just be curtious, and ask the manager on duty, and there will be not problems. All locations listed have food, shopping, ect all within walking distance.

Even though I have 4.4 acres here, switching over to a E unit has presented some challenges because I can not get a trailer down my dead end road to the house. So I have had to call places to find a spot to drop my trailer, and have found that most places will even allow me to drop my trailer on their property. FREE..

That happened to me the first time I was in Ft. Wayne. I went and talked to the cashier in the truck stop, told her I was in a van and she told me they have a special area for us expediters. After that things were good. I have received free showers from there as well. I like it cause its one of the last "old school" truck stops, like Whites in Virginia. Plus the staff is friendly, big clean showers, descent food and Mike, the guy who runs the CB shop downstairs always takes care of me. On top of that its close to the Freightliner dealer, has plenty of hotels close by plus a movie theater one exit up.

RE: RE%25253A Will never stay in Fort Wayne%25252C

Yep the 1st time I saw that sign at the mcdonalds I said they don't want my business anymore, so I went over to brandy's and wasted about 2 hr's over there. Then went over to the bull pen and parked in there. I remember when they were rebuilding the truckstop and I parked out front a guy walked up to me and told me nicely that there is a new parking area around back, and I said thank you I am glad we have a area to park in as the pakrking area was very small out front with all that constuction going on. So now I give the ft wayner pretty much all my food & shower business, "when I am in that area" and to this day I have not gone back to that mcdonalds and probley never will. One sign is all it takes. By the way I don't think that I ever saw any vans parking in the mcdonalds lot sleeping, but maybe I am wrong "sometimes I am"!!!!!!

OK, I would have told the McDonalds employee what makes them think I am an expediter?

I don't know what the laws are in the FW area about loitering, but a business here in Michigan can't just throw up signs singling out an vehicle because of signs on it or purpose unless there is a specific loitering law covering it where the business is.

What I mean that they have to have all vehicles with commercial plates (state of Michigan does not discern between pickups and cargo vans, commercial is commercial) park in a specific area, not just a van or pickup that they may think is a certain type of business AND if they do have a sign telling you to park in a specific area in their lot, they automatically assume responsibility for your property - so if someone breaks into your van while it is sitting there, you simply sue them for damages and most of the time you will win unless you don't show up for the court appointment. The exception is handicap parking, which they can not tell you that you can not park in a handicap parking spot with a proper and legal permit, it is against all states laws - Expediter or no Expediter.

I know all of this because I had to deal with people parking their vans, pickups and cars in my parking lot from the company next door and the store across the street at my parts warehouse and my company had to go to court because we were trying to keep them out and had a lot of issues over being sued, we ended up paying for damages from people stealing stereos and breaking windows, which ended up forcing us to fence off the entire area and having our employees park in the dock area. The laws have not changed at all, the state has had the same liability laws on the books for 60 years but the cities have added loitering laws which do not specify occupations.

Sharp eye...Hadn`t caught that. Reminds me of the time I put a sign in the window of my store (a former life)with a misspelled word. One of my best customers, a school teacher, just loved to razz and tease me.

RE: RE%25253A Will never stay in Fort Wayne%25252C

Use to own a Vacuum and sew store, daughter has it now, but when she was in the seventh grade her teacher came in and daughter waited on her. This teacher always was very critical of the students to the point she would embarrass the student in front of others. Well right after the teacher left my daughter went to the cash register got the check and made a bee line for front door. I thought the teacher must of not signed the check, moments later daughter appeared back to store with a copy of check. Next gay in spelling daughter missed all of words on spelling test. Teacher told class and ask what my daughter did last night instead of studying, My daughter said she was wondering what a teacher could not spell a word that had 6 letters totaling with three vowels. She then presented the copy of check, Teacher spelled it VACUME instead of VACUUM . She sent my daughter to the office, got a call went in to the school. Talk to the principal finally got thru to her that the reason my daughter did what she did was to show the teacher students had feelings too. Guess one thing in my daughters favor she was an honor student with no missed days. The Teacher from that day forward never public embarrass any students.

Although it's awkward to us and doesn't match the forum expeditor is an acceptable alternative spelling for expediter so technically it isn't misspelled. I like our version better though.

Very true Leo. It is acceptable to be spelled with er or or. In fact, if you look online at most truck sellers, ie. Truck Paper, Truck Trader or Trucker.com, they all have a very specific category in which to list our box trucks called Expeditor/Hotshot.
