Both Flying J & TA offer their own wifi, for anywhere from 24 hrs of access to a yearly plan. I don't know about Petro or Pilot - think it's hit & miss with them.

Haven't been OTR since 2003 do Truck stops have WiFi for Laptop connecting to the internet ?

Wifi is found in many places these days, there's no reason to go without an internet connection regardless of where you are.

Some of the states have begun to offer free wifi at their rest stops, Texas and Iowa come to mind.

Sometimes if you're parked in an area with lodges you can "borrow" a signal. Holiday Inns are famous for sharing.

Or you can just do the boring thing that we do and pay Verizon an extra $60 a month and use their air card!

Yeah as stated above wireless is abundant now a days. Every where from McDonalds and most other fast food restaurants to rest areas offer it up free of charge. All the major Truck Stops have some version available, but as stated it is often hit or miss. Be careful of "borrowing" a signal as it is illegal in some states. We have booked many a campground spot these days with wifi as well ( plus you get clean showers and a pool ). We also carry the Aircard for when we are out of range of these many options, and it has served us well. Nothing like paying the internet bill from the road on someone else's internet connection.

I find Flying J to be the best . They have specials like buy 2 months get 1 free . Most McDonald's have WiFi and will give you a passcode when you make a purchase . I've had problems at T/A with weak signals and couldn't connect at Pilot . Internet service is included with IdleAire . If you need good service an aircard will cost $50 - $60 dollars a month . I paid $129 a year for Flying J service and it serves my needs .
