Try this link to a free site that offers a directory to free Wi-Fi hotspots around the USofA and Canada. The directory has over 8900 sites in the USA and the three hottest states are California, Illinois, and Georgia with a total of 2354 free sites.

Under search business just type in Free Wifi.
