Why not to go to Mexico.

I remember when the other drivers were the thing that scared me most in Mexico - and our government wants to encourage more interaction with Mexican officials?

I have to believe that if one were to do commercial work down there, it wouldn't be quite so scary. However, I would definitely get a motel room, or stay in a decent truck stop (if such a thing exists). The main point is, as far as I know, our companies won't haul into Mexico for insurance reasons. Secondly, your own bobtail insurance won't cover your truck. I doubt my car insurance would cover my car.

All the rest is a lot of scare talk. I parked my car in El Paso once, walked across the bridge for .20 centavos, and had a nice time in Ciudad Juarez with my wife, and we had no problems at all. Now that was 15 yrs ago, but, hey, I have never had a Mexican threaten me, and I worked in the old Mexican neighborhood in Chicago near 18th & Roosevelt for a glass shop for two years. Great carne asadas by the way...

OK?

I applied for a job at Ford a long time ago to be an american gopher for the excutive staff in south america. I went through the interview process and was to go down to Brazil to the final interview but when they gave me the 'package' of forms to be filled out, one thing was the K&R insurance form with the next of kin line "just in case" (that was printed on the form). I asked about this and found out that this was standard insurance for a segement of workers who worked in these countries. Once I found out that, I decided that I will not go to Mexico or south america for any reason.

I believe that most of the crime in Mexico is carried out by gangs such as MS13 and others that pass through Mexico on their way to USA.

It may be reality, or TV and movie induced paranoia, but if the Mexican authorities as so corrupt that they can rob you and throw you in jail at any time for no reason, and there's not a thing you can do about it, then there's zero chance that me or my truck will be going into Mexico.

You give up all of your rights crossing a border. Really the only help you can recieve is from an Embessay, I may be wrong but I believe I am correct.

The chances of something happening are probably slim, but even with slim I would not chance everything I have worked so hard to accomplish.

As for making $ how ya gona pull that off when they will be working for a third of what is paid now? Thank you W4 and I voted for this nimkonpoof, boy what a mistake.

There are parts of Mexico that aren't that bad if you know where to go. Alot of them are the tourists traps. Not likely to encounter a problem there as too many tourist dollars are needed to support these areas. We go just about every year and never have had a problem.
That being said, I would still never run a commercial truck in there.

Yeah, that's my understanding, too, that if you get into trouble down there, real or fabricated, your only option is to contact the American Embassy down there.

Assuming, of course, they let you make the phone call in the first place.

before entering mexico with your car,you must buy mexican auto insurance,as our state side insurance is not good.
now while in mexico,in your truck,if they say your brakes are out of adjustment, they can impound your truck and put you in jail til you pay the fine and repairs on your truck.
ive been told this by a few mexican guys that do border crossings in laredo, and their police are very corrupt.
in canada, they also can impound your truck, for repairs, but its not likely you will go to jail, but its up to you to find way home,or pay to fix your truck
