Why limit the 34 hour restart?

What is the basis for limiting the 34 hour restart to one per week? It would seem that anyone who has 34 continuous hours off duty would have ample time to be fully rested.

Just the opposite. If we have 68 hours off a week we are too tired. Go Figure. The govt knows what is best for us. Ill be back I gotta go shoot the pig flying over my house.

To stop the drivers from an 82 hour week, when the rules say 70 hours in week for companies that are open 7 days a week.

168 -34 -10 -10 -10 -10 -10 = theoretical maximum hours left to work if only one restart is taken a week.
168 -34 -34 -10 -10 -10 = theoretical maximum hours left to work if more then one restart is taken a week.
so, by limiting a restart for only once a week, we actually gained 14 more theoretical hours to drive.
you'd think they'll do the math BEFORE claiming that the rules are base on sound scientific research. or that the implementation of the rules cannot wait for court decisions or CVSA requests, do to the safety benefits we will all gain, as Anne Farro , told congress.
