Why is it?

Why is it that hard working people are REQUIRED to provide both charity and pay subsidies to healthy, young adult males?

My wife's niece's boyfriend is in the "music business" in NYC. Has a degree in something and just got an $8 per hour job in a studio. He is on food stamps, why? He CHOOSE a field where he is unlikely to be able to support himself for a very long time, if ever. Why should we hard working tax payers have to cover for him to feed himself? Does that really make sense?

My wife's niece also states that many college students, most college students are full grown adults, are on food stamps as well. I wonder if that is correct? Again, why in the world should we be subsidizing them to go to school? If they can't feed and support them selves they need a job first.:mad:

Because people have no pride anymore and grow up with their hands out...they feel entitled to all the benefits:rolleyes:of being a US citizen.
Plus, everyone wants everything NOW, I am sure most of us right out of high school or college, didn't drive a 30 thousand dollar car and live in a very nice apartment and have the bigscreen and nice furniture.
I started off with a $500 hundred dollar hooptie a futon and a cinder blocks and boards in my apartment..I did get a small TV and a Microwave as a housewarming gift:)eek: crappy apartment)
I know in my Grandparents generation they'd rather die then take a handout. Now a handout is expected as a right!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Within a year of getting out of high school I was in the military. Then, after I got out, I got married. We lived in a 1 bedroom upper flat. Lost my job several times due to a very bad recession, left the area I wanted to live in, moved to England, and raised my family the right way. I EARNED everything.

I cannot imagine being SO USELESS as to take hand outs when you are healthy, intelligent and in your 20's. What bums.

I have family, a cousin. he is in is late 20's with a 4 year college degree, he has two children and a "wife" they never got legally married, so she can collect welfare/foodstamps etc.
They are working the system like many do nowadays:mad:

Yeah, my niece has a "masters" and not working. She did the food stamp thing when she was doing her, "internship" I just don't get it. How can they be SO LAZY? Anyone one can get through school, real life requires gumption.

You know how we are out here constantly trying to cut costs and increase revenue? With many poeple, food stamps is a way to do that now. Gotta make ends meet any way you can.

As for moving to England and raising your family right, I say you don't have to move that far away to raise your family right. Anywhere outside of Michigan would suffice, with Kentucky being the best choice, of course. :D

Why should I pay for able bodied people who are too lazy to work? Work 4 or 5 jobs if you want to "make it in music" Their job of choice is not mine to subsidize. We called them bums when I was growing up. An apt description today as well. Earn it or don't have it. Makes no difference what field you choose.

Kentucky had no job for me at that time. I went where I had too to support my family by working. I had a job offered. It paid just enough to meet our needs, so I took it.

Kentucky is nice, if you like hot climates and little water. Pretty State to visit.

The State or City is not what matters. Character matters. A person of character would NOT want a handout. They were prefer the challenge of making it on their own. They are weak.

I am in KY right now and I think I would rather be in MI. The drivers and city planners are incredibly stupid and rude. Hey maybe if you weren't opening a beer can with your last tooth or blinded by the stars and bars in your truck you could have let me over, better yet how about not having interstates setup so you need to make double left exits so close.

You do need to stay away from Detroit though.

Added to it for ya. :D:D

Flint is a hole, always has been always will be...but it's home and I wouldn't trade places with anyone. Pure entertainment. For free.

I have a sister-in-law in Iowa who is married, 2 teenage kids. On the dole, living in subsidized housing. Each of them has their own cell, PCs, a Wii, they eat out all the time...and I kid you not, since her brother (my late husband) died, she calls every 6-9 months with some financial sob story because she knows there is insurance.

She and her husband have had good paying jobs with benefits but quit them because they were too "blue collar". I never come off it, I tell her to sell their luxury items and cook at home, I offer her alternatives to her situation. I also tell her I have to manage my money, she needs to also. Somehow she feels since I have it, I should share it.

She feels since I retired early, I am beholden to take care of everyone in the family.

What is ironic in an aggravating way: blue collar jobs are beneath them...yet my money which came from blue collar would be just fine for them.

What a shame you feel that way. I can remember when Detroit was a vibrant and fun filled city.

I have relatives in NYC that really looked forward to coming to Detroit. Too bad it is the way it is now. :(
