WHY I GAVE UP!

THE REASONS I GAVE UP ARE MANY. NO HEALTH INSURANCE, COST OF BEING ON THE ROAD,(WHEN COMPANYS HAVE NO FREIGHT AND YOU SIT FOR 2-4 DAYS WAITING FOR LOAD),TAXES, DOT,OWNERS THAT WILL NOT FIX TRUCKS WHEN THEY NEED REPAIRS,OWNER AND COMPANYS THAT WILL TELL YOU ANYTHING TO GET A DRIVER BEHIND THE SEAT OF A TRUCK, AS IN WE HAVE A LOT OF FREIGHT ALL OVER THE COUNTRY,HA!HA!HA! TOO MANY TRUCKS NOT ENOUGH FREIGHT, I TOOK A 12.00 AN HOUR JOB AND AT THE END OF 2001 I SHOWED MORE MONEY ON A 40 HOUR WEEK THEN I DID IN A TRUCK. I TOOK EVERY LOAD AND WORKED AS OFTEN AS I COULD. I AM STARTING A LIST OF OWNER OPERATORS AND EXPEDITING COMPANYS THAT HAVE LIED TO DRIVER TO GET THEM TO DRIVE OR SIGN ON A TRUCK AND THEN STARVED THE DRIVER OR LET THEM SIT TILL NO END. IF YOU HAVE INFO ON THESE TYPE OF PERSONS OR COMPANYS PLEASE E MAIL THEM TO ME TO START A LIST I WILL VERIFY ALL INFO NOT TO BASH ANYONE UNJUST. THE LIST WILL BE PUBLISHED I 3 MO. IN A LARGE TRUCK PAPER(HAVE TALK TO EDITOR AND HE AGREED TO STAND BEHIND ME, AND I WILL START A WEB SITE AND HOPEFULLY A CHAT SOON THANKS TO ALL AND GOD BLESS IF YOUR IN THE EXPEDITING FIELD.

Bud,

Sorry to hear about the misfortunes you encountered in expediting. It can be a rough business. Its not for everyone.

Expediting is like any other aspect as life. It is pure rugged individualism. There are no handouts. As an an individual it is up to you to aquire your own insurance. You can get it through OOIDA or any other insurance company. If it costs too much gather other individuals and get a group rate. Dont sit around and wait for someone else to do something for you. If you find an owner who doesn't fullfill their responsbilities, find another or buy your own truck. You aren't a slave.

You either create it for yourself or you don't succeed. That is the truth. Many people get into this business to "Be their own boss." They don't see that the downside of that is they also can create their own faliure.

I have been expediting for 7 years. All of that time as a driver, not an owner. I have had both good and bad owners. I believe there is more good than bad. Its like in any other part of life. You hear about the bad ones more than the good.

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you. I wish you good luck in your future.

Can't say I blame you for leaving. Am looking that way myself. I'll be going out this sunday for about 3 weeks and if I don't see improvement, I'll probably shut it down. I've been with too many companies that promise big bucks but don't deliver. They don't care because there is always someone else just coming into expediting they can sink the claws into. Am almost to the point of regreting selling my rig and coming to expediting with a straight truck but have to admit its nice to be able to pull into just about any driveway without weight limit or size. Once your site is up, your probably going to be putting all of these expediting companies on your list due to slow times and *&@!#) off drivers. I'll be glad to give you my 2 cents when your up and running.
Good luck
Randy:)

Well, I'm outta here too. Just sold my truck today. Purchased a class 8 tractor and am going back to yanking a tanker to pay the banker. The money is 100% better and pretty steady also. Hated to give up my D unit but with the economic enviroment within the expediting business, and the state of the automotive industry, it was becoming increasingly difficult to make end meet let alone make a profit.
I really like the expedite biz,but before I ran myself into bankruptcy, I decided to call it quits. I think a lot of people need to do some soul searching and make the decision on whether to continue or not. I have seen many trying to stay afloat on credit cards, second mortgages, loans from freinds and family, only to lose it all in the end.
I was with a decent company and did not have any major problems with them and on occasion did pretty good with them, but with the amount of equipment on the street and more being added daily coupled with diminishing freight rates, I just could not risk waiting it out to find the light at the end of the tunnel.
I will miss the people I have met on this forum and on the road who have shared their insight and wisdom with me and wish each and everyone of you the best of luck. I will continue to visit EO and read all the posts to stay abreast of the business. I think once you start expediting, you really never let go.

Take care.
