Who should pay?

I'd suggest the driver pay and the owner put in the contract that at the completion of one year the driver will receive a bonus of say $500 to offset the cost of getting to the vehicle. That gives the driver incentive to stick around if at all possible.

I like that idea. What would you fleet owners think if a driver approached you with this idea?

If the driver met the required standards of the contract for the entire year for availability and acceptance I'd consider such an option.

Sounds very workable. We do something similar to this as a year end bonus.

I do not think that this is a good idea .
any periodical/performance bonus given will lead to future expectation .
drivers doing their contracted job well ,will be very well financial rewarded anyway.and the owner can express his satisfactions otherwise .
money talk - bull**** walk - & cruise ships floats .
i cannot see how drivers can do a better job then the one expected from them .
in this small nitch ,all we need to do is look on what have happened in the trucking industry with the sign on bonus ,to understand how such practice can backfire on all of us real quick .
(hint ;especially the drivers !)

As each owner & driver situation is individual,
Yes ,this is it , right there .
i once told drivers ,that once they get to the truck ,i will be happy to pay their way back home if they don't like that truck. ...
Ya just can't 'sell' a truck over the phone.
