I'm a van fleet owner who bought a straight truck recent and looking for a good carrier who hauls most freight.I was looking into Bolt,Tri State and Express 1 but never deal with them and of course when you call them they sell you peaches N cream pies.So as a fleet owner I want'a hear from other fleet owners and as well of drivers.I own 3 cargo vans and the company they are lease with is a smaller company but even tho they do very well for vans they for some reason don't do well for straight trucks from what I was told.Any info be great and no Panther either that's where I had my vans till they drop my contract to a lower cpm rate,so not interested dealing with them.Truck is 06 f/l with double bunk sleeper. Thanks

Add Load1 to your list and i think u have the top carriers...all of them can show you stats on their freight movement...just ask.

L1 does not do cargo vans. Sorry if I misread and your only looking for a spot for the straight.

Being new to the world of dealing with fleet owners (only have one on our Tractor side, rest are O/O's). What are fleet owners looking for in a carrier? I am in the process of creating our offering for ST's and wanted to get some input.

Kinda new to the Pond myself with just coming up on 6 years now.
Honesty from carriers end would be high on my list..If you advertise 10 miles a week make sure dispatchers are doing everything possible to get em close to it if not over when possible..
(Most of us know its not always possible) Maybe keep em informed when the bottom falls out or when your expected to see a busy week coming up.

Make sure when you have a shift change in the office each person coming on duty knows where the fleet is and how long they have may been sitting empty. Nothing worst then calling in and hearing someone say,,,,Where are you? I don't even know where you are how can I find freight.

Maybe their pay should reflect how the fleet does and I'm not talking bonus pay.. When the fleet isn't loaded shut off F/book,,Yahoo card games,,all Internet & chat and texting while on duty. (I at the last carrier have been told to call back after the hockey game and we will see what we can find.) Shake the 9-5 mentally some ppl get when they punch a clock. Don't let problems lay on the table until the next shift comes in.
There are some great dispatchers and recruiters out here that do care if the O/O succeed or not..Seach em out and try to take them on.
Try to offer some sort of good fuel savings/discounts/FSC as this is one of our worst enemy's right now.
Other things will come to mind right after I push the send button but thats all I got for ya right now..

Thanks, funny thing is so much of that is common sense I always find it interesting that anyone would run a business without much of what you are saying as a base line.

What role to carriers play in working out disputes between drivers and owners? This seems to be an issue that I hear a lot about.

If you are with F2F...from what i hear, you're doing it right already!

Thank you. We do try very hard but never want to sit back. We are turning down a lot of ST freight and will be focusing our efforts on growing this area. We have the freight, we have the resources to manage and dispatch. Just want to make sure we have a good program before we go full force into recruiting.

All the insight is welcome.

The carrier should stay out of the driver/fleet owner relationship as much as possible. With that said, after seeing the way some fleet owners treat their drivers, I wouldn't want my company associated with them...if I were the carrier.

Thanks, I can see it being tough to fire a bad fleet owner when you have a good driver.

You can and should make the fleet owner keep the equipment in good condition, but beyond that, it's gets tricky.

What happens if the fleet owner decides not to pay the driver for 6 weeks? What if he never pays the driver? It's really none of your business and could likely have legal ramifications if you try to intervene. But, I wouldn't want that fleet owner out there doing that kind of stuff... and be guilty by association. We've seen some horror stories float through the forums over the years. That would be the biggest hurdle to clear in my opinion.

Personally, I would cancel the fleet owners contracts and try hard to find the drivers a ride with a better fleet owner (keeping the driver with your company obviously).
