Which companies allow Super-B Vans..

I have been offered a great deal on a E-450 cube van with a diesel motor.
It has a 16" box with a "pass-thru" between the cab and box.

I'd like to use 6' for a sleeper.
There would then be 10' for cargo.
I'd install an airtight bulkhead between the two using metal studs.

I'm sure this rig would carry as much a regular style van
but have a nice living area.... and room for my Gazelle workout machine

The box has a roll-up door...
Is it possible to install swing doors as I've heard they hold up better..??

Which expedite companies allow this type of van...???

FireGears... looking for your insights

I don't know! But keep us posted who does. Sounds like a great idea, with a piece of equipment that won't be a throw away like some of the other equipment has become!

I have seen both landstar and Panther running those types, and there are others I have seen. It would be a extra bonus if it is dock high.
Alot of companies request a DH only truck for pickup & delivery

I know this is an old post, but I was wondering if anybody found out who will take this type of van. I was looking at almost the same setup, E450 cab & chassis and add a 16' box.

Thanks...
:)

As earlier indicated, both Panther and Landstar are currently using this setup. I would contact the respective recruiters for additional imformation.

In a setup like we are talking about here, there is a huge point that nobody seems to have brought up...GVW. I have seen super B setups that after all is said and done can't carry as much weight as an extended CV. Having all the space in the world will do you no good if you can't carry the weight to go with it. Also... I would recommend keeping 12 feet of cargo space vice 10. That extra 2 feet can help you accommodate one more skid (than the guy sitting next to you at the Pilot or Flying Hook). Give yourself every possible advantage and it will eventually pay off out here. Just something to think about - X

This setup usally has a GVW over 10,000lbs.That means every mile must be logged.Something B units do not have to do except when carrying Hazmat.

While I don't know all the specifics, there was a gut running a ford truck with the unicell box and he was under 10,000 lbs. and didn't log. He had a sleeper ect. It was a dually with a complete flat floor. He posts ocassionally on here but I can't remember his name.

The Ford dually has a gvw of 11,500 in the 350 version. The 450 I think has a gvw of 14,500.

We currently have a Ford E-350 with a unicell body, dual wheels, flat floor. The box portion is 14ft, and my DH used 5 for sleeper area (leaving 9 for cargo). He can get dock high. We have it registered at 10,000 lbs, but the door sticker says it can hold 11,500. It is sort of a grey area as to whether a state would go by the door sticker, or what you are registered as. My DH (Dear Husband) runs a log book as some states (AL) requires even the vans to have one. He frequently gets a C rate on freight as it is over-sized for regular vans, but not necessarily over the weight. If it's on a pallet and taller than 48", it's a C rate. We can also hold 4 standard sized skids. The only difference we would make would be to get a box from Supreme next time.

I was a supervisor for a company that had a Ford Super Duty F350 flatbed . I was coming from a job following this truck ( which was tagged in IN ) when the 20 year old driver got stopped by KY DOT . The officer checked the GCVW on the truck door and said the driver had to be 21 to operate the truck interstate . I said he left a job in KY and was taking it to another KY location and he was off the hook . He would have been in trouble if the officer asked him for a DOT physical card . When I was checking cube van opportunities I was told to get a van with a max gvw of 10,000 . It is the manufacturers weight that counts .

HI kands2,
I'm curious as to why next time you purchase a box van you would not buy another Unicell but would buy a Supreme unit instead.
