A last minute presentation by Stu Sutton has been scheduled for the Expedite Expo 2009.

This is a MUST ATTEND event for every serious Expedite Owner Operator.

Where's the freight?
When will the economy turn around?

These are the main questions every Expediter is asking - whether it is the driver, trucking company owner or any vendor to the trucking industry.

GPSNet Technologies, a supplier to the transportation industry, has collected load and revenue data from hundreds of Expedite companies across North America over the past 5 years.

ExpeditersOnline.com is happy to announce that Mr. Stuart Sutton, president of GPSNet Technologies will share this amazing industry information at the Expedite Expo.

This presentation will include:
  • - Load Count analysis for several years with explanations of the peaks and valleys
  • - Revenue per mile analysis broken out by Total Revenue per mile, Line Haul revenue per mile, Fuel Revenue per mile and Accessorial Revenue per Mile.
  • - Strategies to survive the recession
  • - Discussions on when the economy will turn around
  • - Discussions on the next industrial revolution. What will be our new economy?
  • - Recommendations for the next 6-12 months

Please make plans to attend this informative workshop, which will be presented at 10:00 am Friday, July 24 at Expedite Expo
Roberts Centre, Franklin Room 1

Stuart Sutton is president of GPSNet Technologies Inc., with offices in Woodhaven, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario. Mr. Sutton graduated with an Honors Computer Science degree from the University of Waterloo in 1981 and then returned to school after several years of work to get his Masters of Business Administration (Finance) in 1991 from the University of Windsor (Deans Honor Roll). He has worked in the automotive (General Motors), Natural Gas Distribution, Warehousing and Construction industries before joining a large international trucking company in 1995 as their VP of Information Technology.

In 2001 he co-founded GPSNet Technologies Inc. which is the leading supplier of transportation technology for the time sensitive expedite and truck load industry in North America. GPSNet's vision was rather unique. Take a group of competing companies that share similar business issues and get them to make more money by selling each other's products. Since all GPSNet customers run their business on GPSNet servers at the GPSNet data centers, Mr. Sutton has the ability to combine and analyze transportation business metrics and provide his customers with unique insights into their industry.

He has been married to his life-partner, Rose-Anne, for 30 years and has two University aged children. His hobbies include hockey, golf, hunting and fishing.

Will this seminar be available for sale afterwards on dvd form? It is a must-see, but I,as well as some unfortunate few, will not be able to attend on Friday.

I sat through the briefing earlier today. At the end of the talk he said that if anyone wanted a copy of his presentation notes to leave their email address, and he would email it out later. Maybe there is a way to track him down and get on his mailing list. --eb

I attended Mr. Sutton's presentation and did not see anyone making a video of it. Information he shared was similar to information he has distributed in the past.

He operates a company named GPSnet Technologies, Inc. His large network of mostly small expedite carriers gives him a unique view of the expedite industry and hard data about it.

At his Expo presentation, Mr. Sutton showed a series of charts that illustrated freight volumes and rates over the last several years. To no one's surprise, the charts showed 2009 volumes and rates to be lower than those of recent years. They also showed a pickup on volumes and rates in July, 2009.

Mr. Sutton shared a bit about the services his company provides (but not in a sales pitch way), and offered advice on what carriers can do to help survive the current recession.

Most interesting to me were his ideas about the new economy. He said that in our lifetime we will see "peak oil," meaning that we will reach the point where we will be pulling as much oil out of the ground as will ever be possible, and from that point, the supply of oil will decline.

He pointed out that oil is controlled by a small number of companies and renewable energy like solar and wind is controlled by individuals that have solar panels on their house. He said that the next industrial revolution will be the transition away from big energy companies to small and from oil-based energy to renewables.

For the benefit of people who were interested but unable to attend, I urge others who attended Mr. Sutton's presentation to also share their notes from the presentation.

I appreciate the post Phil, but I don't agree with this statement. Oh and thanks for the photos -I'm not in any of them - thank God.

He said that the next industrial revolution will be the transition away from big energy companies to small and from oil-based energy to renewables.

This has been speculation for a long long time but the truth is individuals are at the mercy of the big companies that produce the products that go on the houses or in the ground to produce green energy just as much as they are with the hundreds of oil producers and refiners. The main players are all very large companies who are also into Oil. This new economy is not as simplistic as many make it out to be and got to tell you for someone who is in this business, it is weird that something like this is even mentioned - or maybe I am should have made it to the seminar on time?

I don't know Atlas, why is that?

Maybe if you read a bit more the posts of the past you will see what is going on. Many seem to forget the past and only focus on what happens with me.

I don't know if you noticed, I was complimenting Phil for the info and thanking him for the photos, nothing derogatory about that. I did make the comment that I am glad I didn't appear in any of them but maybe I do - a loss for anyone seeing that photo. Nevertheless I do appreciate what he did, which is not the first time nor will be the last.

I was making a comment about the same line many of us have heard over and over again which was not Phil's but someone else's. It seems people tend to buy into the BS when it is stated over and over again, something that is used to sell ideas that may not be good ones. The whole solar/wind power/CNG thing is a big mess and not a grassroots thing, if it was we would already have it done or didn't you notice a lack of wind generators off the coast?

Again thank you Phil.

It was useful, it probably would have been more useful if I had been at the presentation. The graphs are a little confusing with out better explaination. They really show how much it has slowed down.

Also to everyone who has PM'd me, as soon as I get approval I will forward the presentation Thanks

You won't get that till tomorrow. Linda has a unique clock/calendar. Nighttime is shifted several hours backward and falls in the 1800-0200 range whereas true nighttime is more like 0300-1100, all logbook times of course. :D
