Actual attacks are rare. Disagreements? Oh yeah, there's plenty of those. The problem is that some people take simple disagreements as a personal attack and then it just goes downhill from there.

Personally, I don't see the need of an announcement. Rather than leaving for an extended period, I will just take shorter breaks more frequently to avoid burnout. Quite often, those breaks will come naturally from whatever is going on at the time. I'm just not enough of a "drama queen" to make a big show of it.

lol sorry but I gotta say it. It is hilarious to think that the "older generation" can have an addiction of the internet. That is way to funny I have heard and seen a lot of addictions drugs and drinkin and what not. As far as the attacks thats just good old bickering back and forth. I am new to this site and right off the bat I have kinda got the feeling that there are a few that you can tell they have the "better than thou" attitude. But oh well, if you dont think you are #1 who will?? But the announcement of leaving and when you are returning thats just begging for attention.....I say keep it all up and keep trying to poke holes in everyone's dream, sooner or later they will become un-stoppable and you will thank that person who brought attention to the details. On another note, Dough you are freakin hilarious keep up the great post and insight!!!!!!!!!!! I love your sense of humor!!!!! I think its that great michigan state of mind......lol

I don't think the internet-addiction thing was meant as a real disease-like state, like some other addictions.. but just more of a spending way too much time here when there're other more important things to deal with, type of deal.

Sorry if I come across as seeming to only see one side, and pop up in ATeam's defense unduly.. I would be doing the same for any of us. I just wanted to say that altho I agree wholeheartedly that a person who announces their departure (aka I'm taking my toys and I'm going home), has got to be an attention-seeker/whiner-looking-for-sympathy-and-support, I believe in ATeam's case his reasoning was different.

As much as some of you don't like it, he IS looked upon as a good resource for information for newbies, and he HAS gathered a large following who like to read his stuff.

He is also right out there in the open, opening himself up to whatever comes his way, good or bad, laying his words on the line for all to see and pick apart. Unlike most of us, he is not anonymous. I believe he stated his intentions and return date, not for us to pick apart, but for those who may wonder where he went, and may wish to reach him by other means than via EO.

And hey, who are you calling 'older generation'?? :D

Take the tests, answer honestly

Internet Addiction Test (IAT)

Blogthings - Are You Addicted to the Internet?

Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) was first proposed by a doctor as a satirical hoax, using pathological gambling as the comparative diagnostic model. But since then, people have realized that it's a very real and very serious thing. If excessive computer use begins to interfere with daily life, it's a problem.

On the other hand, many of the younger generation sees computer use, use that might be considered excessive by the other generation, not as an interefance in daily life, but simply a part of it. Older farts see kids texting in their sleep, for example, and see texting as a problem, but they're looking at texting through their own eyes and then applying their own defintion of "excessive" to it's use. ho nos, wen dis gNR8N tAkz ovr we may av wrld leadAs txtN ea oder whr wars may B avoidd, n startd ovr misNtertprTd txt msgs. (Who knows, when this generation takes over, we may have world leaders texting each other where wars may be avoided, and started, over misinterpreted text messages.)

Hey gsmacker, that is kinda funny, us older guys with computers. Gee, I thought we invented them, and the internet. I was using computers all the way back in 1973 and the intell business was using pre-cursers to the modern computer back in WW2. LOL. What are you young whippersnappers" gonna come up with? Layoutshooter

Isn't online meetings of the "Internet addicted support group" kind of like holding AA meetings in a bar? Or Overeaters Anonymous at a Golden Corral? Or Recovering Kleptomaniacs at the mall?

I have not been a member of EO very long and nobody even knows who I am here but I've gotten to know alot of you just by reading your post and threads. And I hope I'm not hanging my self here but it seems like there's a lot of judging goin on and I realize that I'm judging by posting this,I'm not doing it to mean harm as some people do,since I have been a member here I've asked other people I do know if they have ever checked out EO and there reply was "Yes but all those people want to do is fight and complain so I just read some and it always reconfirms my first opinion of it".We all have weakness but we all have streanth(as you see one of my weakness' is spelling)some people are quick to point out other peoples weakness if that happens to be there streanth.I would rather learn that persons streanth because it may turn out to be my weakness.Well thats my two cents.Could some one please tell me how to spell "streanth"it does not look right to me.

That's not funny, Cheri. I used to waitress at an open AA meeting that was held in the lounge at the Evergreen truckstop. They had to be done at 11 am so the bar could open for the day.

Ok Jeanie, ya got me - I don't really know that much about AA meetings. (I've only been to one, when the nursing school included attendance in the curriculum, and I was so nervous I locked my keys in the car. While waiting for AAA to come unlock the car, an attendee approached & asked how long I'd "had a problem drinking" When I said I didn't have a problem drinking, he said that everyone says that at first....I was still banging my head on the car when the AAA guy got there)
But holding meetings in a bar seems like playing with fire, still.....
PS Cruzer: it's spelled strength. :)

You don't think that's funny? It's hilarious. The fact that it's actually true makes it even funnier.

AA meetings at a lounge.
Overeaters Anonymous meetings at a buffet restaurant.
Gamblers Anonymous meetings at the casino.
Crystal Meth Anonymous meetings in a trailer park.
Funny stuff, man.

It's an acronyminous world we live in, for sure - but what a difference an A makes: AA or AAA, eh? :p
It WAS funny, and I couldn't have done Jeanie's job with a straight face, nohow. Especially since I've never heard of anything being served at AA meetings 'cept coffee and donuts, and just trying to picture Jeanie delivering them in an apron gives me the giggles.:D

Reading Turtle talking about the perception of internet use being a problem reminds me of when we got our kids their first Nintendo. At the time, there was all this concern about video games isolating kids from the rest of the world. At our house, that was far from the truth. After school, a small group would gather in our living room, maybe half a dozen at times, to play Nintendo. They got along great, taking turns, sharing secrets of the game, just generally having a good time.

I wouldn't worry too much. Phil has "fired" himself before. As mentioned he does bring on some of this himself. In this case, I think Greg busted him with some of his EO gaming.
Probably time to take a break. I think he eventually realized that.
Not sure on the value of a departure announcement?
As far as history, well there is certainly a little of that.
Dave,

Can someone in his prestiege position with EO just quit and come back?

Unless he is the owner or one of the owners of EO I would think there would be a contractional obligation...unless EO was the recepient of the stimulus package like AIG. In that case I would think that perhaps his leaving was more inline of receiving a multi-million dollar bonus rather than someone with hurt feelings.

Regardless, keep up the good work.

Phil is an editor not a moderator nor is he forced to post or not post.

Thanks for the quick response TEAM. When I came across his other writings and learned of his involvement with EO it just seemed someone in that position would have been more diplomatic and less confrontational...anyways his contributions are mostly appreciated as we continue our trek in this business.
