LOL Slfisher, I'm glad you asked, I've been wanting to ask that for months but I catch enough flak on here as it is, even when I'm kidding.

BTW there is really only 1 secret to this business and thats being in the right place at the right time. Shhhhh but don't tell anyone.

something to think about,if your offered loads everyday, whether you do them or not, then its not slow, might be slow cause your not getting your usual long loads, but as long as your being offered loads, its not slow.
myself, havent really felt its slow, but have had a run of bad luck, with lots of load cancellations.

Thanks for all the info but I dont own my truck. I am interested in hearing how if one day I get my own truck and lease on to a company how do I find and haul my own loads legaly if they dont keep me running? You said if its a door sign its a easy workaround or loophold thats what you mean right? What is the loophold or workaround that? If I am a billboarded box you mean if the company name is on the sides of the cargo box right? If thats the situation what is the diffence and how do you get around that? Any info you can give me will be most apreciated thank you?

No I have not had alot of load offers I sat in January a whole week without one load offer like I said in my first post that started this. I have never turned down a load yet I realize that sounds unbelievable but I am telling the truth I dont turn down loads even when they go out west. And as far as where I sat that week I had no load offers was in Oaklahoma city 2 days, Dallas a day and a half, Houston 2 days and finally Laredo for 2 days then finally my 2nd day in Laredo I got a load.

Also are you saying there is a way to be with a company lets say Panther just for an example and have your own authority so that if Panther cant get you a load or a load fast enough you cant find and haul your own loads under you own authority? Please any more info you can give is apreciated me and the wife are going to be getting our own truck no later then August of this year and this sounds like the best of both worlds if its possible to be signed onto a company and have your own authority to legally haul freight is that possible?

You'll also need to do a little legwork in how to haul loads without dragging your current carrier into the financial cut of the load profits. If all you have are door signs it's a very EZ workaround. If you're a bill-boarded box.......then it's a call you'd have to make. The cost to legally haul your own loads far out-weigh the frustrations of sitting. I own my own truck and I certainly am entitled to run my business profitably. I feel I had to take measures to ensure this vehicle is a rolling revenue machine.

This part of your post makes no sense and is foolish advice. Either run under your own authority or work for a carrier like Panther that lets you haul your own loads.
The days of trip leasing are long over. Covering signs and all this stuff is wreckless. It wouldn't make sense to haul any load like that because your insurance would be void. If you are covering signs and hauling loads without your carriers knowledge, that is illegal.
You also would have no load insurance. Bad idea and site if that is the bs they are selling.

Are you both signed on with a company and have your own authority? Or you just have your own authority?

Ahhh so you are saying that you cant do both unless your with a company that gives you permission to do so?

Panther is the carrier we use. You can obtain your own loads using their insurance and authority. That is how we do it. That is the legal way, rather than covering up signs etc.
There are a few other carrier choices that have this option, so it would be wise to do your research.

Yep. They don't work for free. They charge 15 percent for using their authority, insurance, and collections. Not all brokers like to pay in a timely fashion.

o/o till i die

Well january started real well for me but the last week was a nightmare.

went to waxahachie,tx 780 loaded miles paid 1,400 then it seemed like there was lots of loads but they all stayed intra state texas or went west bad for me cause I had to deliver the trailer I was pulling to gulfport,ms 400+ miles deadhead there.then another 90 miles to pick up my next trailer in mobile,AL that was supposed to be a working 53' refer.got to great dane and the battery was dead.no problem I can take care of that.hook up to the thing and noticed air presure wasnt building up right.walk around to the back and air blowing out so I spend 6 hours at great dane while they fix air leaks and cant make it to my pick up so had to cancel that one.before great dane was finished with trailer get a call from ch robinson they got a load up by montgomery picking up at 1800 the next day needed to be in chicago by 0800 next morning paying 1,500 on like 750 miles so I say no problem and head up to montgomery figure I can worry about the refer latter myself just buy a new battery.I get up to montgomey to the j spend wednesday night there and get up at 8 to drive the other 70 miles to pick up thinking well I will be in chicago on friday morning and work the weekend to make up for all the deadhead during the week so I had to drive these last 60-70 miles down a two lane country highway and even thou my pick up isnt untill 1800 ch picks that time to call for an update on my location and my cingular phone didnt have a signal for about 40 miles of the back road so they didnt get me and pulled me off the load when I didnt return the call after 20 minutes.it didnt matter the load wouldnt be ready for at least 8 more hours.by this time I was getting pretty frustrated having deadheaded the last 600+ miles with no load and nothing going north out of birmingham.so I then get a call from another carrier that had a truck break down in nashville,tn with a load that needed to be in gibson city,IL I think it was around 400 loaded miles and they would pay $650 so I take that one thinking I can still be empty in IL about 150 miles from home and at least break even if god forbid me to get a load on friday.ok so I head out of birmingham to nashville and what you know
about 20 miles or so north 65 is shut down to big trucks had an accident on a bridge and one of the trucks decided to take a dive of the bridge to the railroad tracks below and I sit in traffic for 2 hours to get up to the detour around the accident the carrier got nervious I wasnt going to make the delivery so in turn they pull me off that load to.That was the last straw I couldnt take anymore this week so just deadheaded home the 400 miles to get the refer working in hopes that this coming week will be better.this week had to be the worst I have had since I started in the late 90s but I got home safe unlike the two on the bridge.put a new battery in the refer and of course it cranks but it aint starting and its to cold for me to work on it outside so monday off to the shop.some times I think it would be easier to lease on to a company than deal with the bs but that just wouldnt be me.I need to be free but my wife got pretty upset when I was gone for 7 days and had $500 more when I left than what I come home with. I had to remodel the kitchen just to get her to shut up.So life aint always grand doing it all yourself loads are easy to find good loads a little harder.january to me isnt slow but I sure do wish I had just stayed home last week.
