when making a del and customer ask you to do something extra like going up to 2nd floor with the item or other how do you handle the it
i have had customer ask me would you take this up here and take the old item out for me , and i ask why are you asking me to do this and they said , when they place the order and person who took the order said this will cost you more if we place it on the order, but if you ask the driver nice he would take it and put where you want

i have told the customer, that i'm not allowed to do that for insure reasons and also you did not pay for that type of service so in door is as far as i'm going, if you wanted it to 2nd floor you should have paid for that level of service

been on a couple of 2 man jobs and they asked the 2nd person if he would take it to where he wanted and said only if he would help me
and i said not being paid for that and won't due it and we need to get going

my feeling are free labor is at for the church

I would tell them I can do it for a higher price than what's paid if it goes through the company if I was willing to do it at all. If I didn't want to do it I'd say no.

We simply call our dispatcher and explain what is the customer is asking. After the request goes through the proper channels a decision is handed down to us and we do as FedEx request. I can honestly say anything extra we have been ask to do we have been fairly compensated.

X you don't know how EGL works. A lot of your 10 to 15 deliverys a day are one doorway only. Some of your deliverys pay as little as $6.00 and 12.00, and you might have five or six of them a day. Some VERY costly items at times. Home delivery of big screen tv's with tilt and tells. You don't want to keep a low baller customer on the backs of the driver.

But to answer Geo's question I think the way we handle it is the best for us. My answer to a question for extra service is if dispatch will approve it I would be happy to do anything you need done. Won't take me a second to get hold of them.

Had a customer that wanted us to deskid 20 skids of computers put on carts and stack them in thier office down the hallway. After dispatch said do it, we did and three hours later I got an extra $250.00.

Geo and Jaminjim,

I would say that that is the way to go. If they want it so bad and/or they say they already paid for inside delivery/unpack/debris remove/setup their whole life, then tell them you'll check in with dispatch. When I was leased to someone else, there were times that I would do a little extra than was ordered (usually these apply to residentials), and most times saw a nice tip for a minute extra. As far as upstairs and such, I would definitely not attempt that without proper requisition. Too many insurance issues that I now understand having to carry my own for my company. Sometimes the cash is very tempting, but if the product gets damaged (or at least the customer says it did), then who is now liable? Also, if you injure yourself on the premises doing something that was not ordered, then who is going to cover your medical bill?

Better to politely decline and ask them to take that up with the shipper.
