Depending on how long " Truckersberg" has had his CDL he may not have needed to know how to read or write English. My CDL was "Grandfathered" in, in 1969. In 1990-1991 I lived & worked on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Turned in my Ct. licence for a Maryland licence. When I moved back to Ct. I had to take a written test. The testing was done in a warehouse type of building, and it had Video type machines for drivers who could not read English to take their test on.

I honestly wouldnt know where I would be if I couldnt do 98% of my own repairs. The parts cost alone is hard enough to swallow.I just replaced my pinoin and seal for 125.00 and a shop told me 260.00 to do it and half a day.1 hour of my time in the J parking lot and I now have 130.00 extra for the upper ball joint that I had to replace for 65.00 plus my 3 hours of time in my driveway. The shop quote was 325.00 for that repair and 2 days down before they could get to it.I really feel for the owners who have to pay 25.00 for a marker light bulb change.

I have problems with my keyboard...

That is like the guy saying my gun killed not me.
Operator error operator error operator error operator error.

My grandaddy was a DP. Straight over on the boat from Poland at the start of WW I.
Poor old DP Charlie, coud hardly speak English and wrote with a shakey hand, his letters looked
like they had been written while on a bumpy road.
Poor old DP Charlie got hired by the city of Cleveland during the time they were building the train tunnels under the Terminal Tower. Digging ditches paid his bills and didnt require him
to speak his broken English.
A funny thing happened in the first year Poor ol DP Charlie was digging ditches.
Using his broken English Poor Ol DP Charlie would make a suggestion about digging the tunnels. After having made a couple astute observations and suggestions his supervisor
spent a little time inquiring how Poor Ol DP Charlie knew so much about tunnel digging.
Lo and behold, Poor Ol DP Charlie was a college graduate, with a degree in engineering who specialized in tunnel building in Poland.
My GrandFather was head inspector of construction for the city of Cleveland until his 78th birthday. Having been asked to come back out of retirement TWICE.
Ol Gramps never did really become fluent in English. He spoke it well enough and never
had a problem communicating.
It was always those intellectuals around him who had a hard time wanting to understand
the Poor OL DP from Poland, even if he was the BOSS.

Remarks about your writing were a bit un-called for. I got your meaning. Layoutshooter

I agree. What's the matter with all you English Nazis? Not everyone's forte is English, not everyone graduated highschool or went to college, and some are just plain dyslexic or semi-illiterate. Especially in the trucking industry, and no offence there! It has always been one of those careers a person could have, to make a decent living for themselves, without necessarily having a great education, or good grammar and spelling skills.
In recent years I have been really concerned about the way the world seems to be going with new requirements being placed on jobs that used to be thought of as jobs anyone could get, as long as they could do the physical work, no matter their education level.
I don't know if it's the same over there, but over here, nowadays, even a garbage man (altho they don't call them that anymore!!! PC you know!) has to have his grade 12 high school diploma. What's up with that? And auto mechanics, they have to go to school a lot more as part of their licensing requirements.. mind you, the schooling part is probably pretty light, but who knows with how technical all the vehicles have become?
My point is... if many of these trades jobs that used to provide an honest living for those who were not the scholarly type, are now requiring specific minimum educational requirements to get such a job.. where will that leave those that perhaps have a learning disability which prevents them from meeting that educational requirement, those that drop out to help with the family farm, or whatever?
I guess we will be able to add boatloads of additional people to our welfare rolls, who won't be able to work, in any job.

On another tangent, this is an expedited trucking forum. I'm sure there are a LOT of seasoned industry members out there who may have valuable things to say, who really aren't going to want to be bothered if they're going to be ridiculed for less than perfect written communication skills. So lay off!

(Cept for the odd crack about how the men seem to have a thing for typing whinning when they mean whining, gotta still get the odd jab in, eh? Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun, but when it starts to become seriously degrading people, take a look in the mirror at all of your own faults, and fix them first!)

truckerbergs2, I'm sorry to hear that you have had so many problems. :( The suggestion that I have is to call the recruiters of several different companies and find out which ones are taking on solo drivers and if they can refer you to any of their fleet owners who are looking for drivers. Talk with the owners and if possible, some of their drivers. Take the time to research both the company and the fleet owner before making your decision.

I apologize for the rude, insensitivity of some of the posters in your thread. Often times the only way some individuals can feel good about themselves and confident in their own abilities is to point out the faults and mistakes of others. Don't let their shortcomings bother you or discourage you from posting. Just skip over their insecurities and move on to the next post. :)

I've noticed alot of this goes on, but their not perfect either. Don't let it bother you. As for the problems you are having, It's probably not the best advice but I say it's just a little smoke wait on the fire. Better luck is just around the corner, of course that would mean the finance company would need to work with you. I wouldn't think they really want that truck back, but what do I know. I said it wasn't the best advice, go out fighting don't tap out.

Very good advice, unless you are more than a few months behind on your payment,a call to the finance company couldn't hurt.
