This is getting to be fun as we watch the Michigan Rebumblicans
self implode.

Detroit convention canceled as Michigan GOP beset with 'chaos and confusion'

... Other good news is that former congressman Pete Hoekstra has taken over the reigns of the Michigan GOP. An excellent choice to right the beleaguered Mi. Republican ship. ...
It looks like someone might have spoken too soon.

No, not too soon. Hoekstra is the right person for the job and he’s MAGA.
The issues in the party will get resolved. There are problems to be worked out, but at least they didn’t have over hundred thousand vote uncommitted in the primary.

Yeah ... they had nearly 300,000 vote for someone that isn't the presumptive front-runner ... a substantial portion of which may not be willing to vote for him once he becomes the eventual nominee.

Clearly a much better situation ...

He’s leading in virtually every poll in Michigan, so clap on.

Also, it looks like they’re getting unified and “up from the ashes”.
Perhaps so. I have not followed the Michigan GOP story closely. Looking today, it seems Trump supporters overwhelmingly elected Trump supporter Kristina Karamo as their state party chair months ago. Internal infighting and mismanagement developed, driving the party into debt, prompting a court battle, and producing rival meetings with each group claiming to be the official group, and one group claiming to have ousted Karamo..

Now, with a court ruling obtained and the national Republican Party committee weighing in, Karamo is clearly out. However she disputes that and has appealed the court ruling. Nevertheless, most people seem to agree on what the official Michigan GOP body is and who is properly elected to lead it.

The "Up From the Ashes" slogan embraced at the recent convention acknowledges the devastation and expresses optimism. While it is clear the delegates are united behind Trump. It has yet to be seen how much or how little they care about the state party itself.

What's Wrong With the Republican Party?

That's the title of this thread. What's wrong with Republican Party now is it is not a party any more. The party's leadership organization, the Republican National Committee, has become a de facto subsidiary of the Trump campaign.

GOP Scraps Early Voting Initiative

"In a victory for the extremist wing of the Republican Party, it looks like Donald Trump’s hand-picked leadership team at the Republican National Committee has officially scrapped the GOP’s plan to encourage early voting this election cycle. Instead, the party is taking steps to prioritize legal challenges to voting systems ahead of November." (Source)

As I said in another post, MAGA seems to be doing everything it can to transform their House GOP majority into next year's minority. Mail-in voting provided an advantage in prior elections to the Democrat voters who used it more than Republican voters. Instead of embracing this proven method of improving voter turnout and encouraging Republican voters to use it, the GOP is officially rejecting it.

Keep up the good work, GOP! I appreciate your efforts to Make America Great Again.

It's Not All Bad for the Republican Party
  • MAGA Mike worked with Democrats to Aid Ukraine.
  • Trump is chafing in criminal court, and he will be for the next 4-6 weeks.
  • Biden is vastly outperforming Trump on fundraising and campaign spending.
  • GOP hardliners in the US House are about to vacate the chair and throw the House into chaos again.
  • A court is about to void Trump's bogus $175 million bond, putting James back in the asset seizure game.
  • The polls are moving modestly in Biden's favor.
  • The GOP House majority is razor-thin, partly because two GOP reps literally quit because of the dysfunctional GOP.
But things are not all bad for the Republican Party.
  • Voters in ruby red districts seem poised to return Lauren Bobert, Matt Gaetz, and Marjorie Taylor Greene to the US House.

Good Summary

"The death of the GOP started slowly, but it’s happening more quickly this year. Republicans no longer champion the free market or free trade, the rule of law, the Constitution, entitlement reform, debt reduction, limited government, American exceptionalism and leadership on the world stage, personal responsibility, or protections for the unborn.

"Instead, they champion Trump."

"This is the Republican party of 2024. Republicans nominated Trump a third time, after his defeat and his attempted coup, and dissolved what was left of the GOP. There is no consistent messaging. There is no consistent ideology. There is just Trump.

"Whether he wins or loses, Trump succeeded in finishing off the Republican party and making it wholly dependent on him.

"He got what he wanted—a house of sand. Republicans got what they deserve."
