Anyone out there know anything about EGL and their operating practices?I have been trying to get on with EGL for over a yr and just can't get over the hump.I went to the Truck Show in April and a recruiter said they needed drivers right now and you could make 3,000 wk.He never called back,so I called and he said he forgot. Then I contacted a local terminal and they had me sign paperwork, take drug test and so on,this took about 3 months.Waited 5 weeks went to another terminal to finish the paperwork and that has been 6 wks ago and have heard nothing.I also noticed they are no longer listed as a carrier on this website?Maybe I can answer my own question by saying if that is how they operate,I probably dont want to work for them.

Went thru same BS with Cleveland terminal earlier this year. Appeared to me as though the corporate people in Houston and the local people don't speak the same language. I would punt and move on.

EGL is a fine company but as you and many others have found out, their corporate officers make everything so hard many people give up. I have several trucks dedicated to EGL work and the drivers make what i think is fair and we as a company pay our bills also.

If your looking for expedited (hot shot) type work, EGL may not be the place for you. about 90% of our work is local work and the rest is hot shots. They do alot of home deliveries for companies like Target and Amazon. The biggest problem I have is that they will put a full size couch on a truck and expect one person to deliver it. Also i've found that even though all their offices are company owned, the offices do not work together at all. of the 10% of the work that is hot shots 98% of the time you will come home empty. I've even had the offices tell me that even if they had something going the way my trucks needed to go they would give it to one of their drivers.

My Wife and I talked with EGL in Cleveland About a Year Ago. Told them we needed to think about it For a Few Days as we were talking with a few Comapanys. They called us Once a week for 2 Months even after we told them we Signed on with someone else.

when i went on with egl in norfolk va, in 2003 i stop in everyday for 3 week's , and had one of the regional vp help me out with paper work
and they said i got on fast in 3 week's
with egl if you want to work for them you have to show them i think how bad you want to work for them, they take a long time to do things
but once you get on you will like it. like the local work

I agree w/ Geo on this one. It takes awhile to get started w/ em. If you like local work they're def. a good company to be with. I believe they now require at least a Sprinter or bigger to sign on w/ em but I could be wrong on that.

I've been w/ em for about 2 weeks now. They started me out slow, though part of that was on me because I was in the process of moving & lived 75 miles away, which is a long way to commute for local work.
Recently I was told that they start most drivers out slow anyways to see what they want & can handle. To me this is better than hooking a driver in by starting him out w/ a $7000/month only to pull back on the person.

I don't know about the $3000 weeks in a Sprinter. Bigger trucks might be a different story, I'm not sure. I'd say on a daily basis you'd make between $150-400, though I don't see having five $400 days in a week. Then again, it might happen. I haven't been there long enough to truly know.

I might make a little less w/ EGL than w/ my former company. Still, I'll take it. For me it's a good fit. Despite EGL wanting Sprinters, which is a vehicle I'm liking less & less every day, I get to sleep in my own bed pretty much every night. That to me is worth it.

I pretty much go in there at about noon & work until anywhere from 8 to midnite. I like the hours I work. I like the people I deal with. I don't care for my vehicle. I LOVE that I sleep in my own bed pretty much every night. All in all I'd say EGL is a good company to work for.

EGL does an extensive back ground check which is done by an outside vendor. this slows the process down more than anything else.

You CAN make some good money, My t/t did $5100 from last Sunday to this morning. a good week but not my best (home 2 nights). Most runs are local with the vans and D unit drivers home nightly, most average around $2200 a week. Where I'm at the straight trucks have certain zip codes or counties they run, similiar to FedEx Ground. The larger furniture is handle here by one truck usually on a weekend, not part of the daily routine

Hot shots as stated earlier are usually paid one way. EGL will allow you to source your own freight for back hauls, The Colonel and I have both made some good money out of this.
It is not for everyone, You will not see all 48 states in a year or probably 5 years, But you can be home daily if you wish.

Thanks for all the info on EGL.I guess my only other concern is I have been hearing a lot about hauling and delivering furniture and big heavy items to residentials.I prefere to run local and regional but I dont want to be a furniture delivery tech. How in the world are you supposed to unload a heavy piece of furniture/appliance or whatever, take it into someone's house, not mess up their floors, walls and not damage the product by yourself? But most importantly not mess up your back?

Amazing they rent advertising on this site but do not respond to applications. I even tried and have heard of others with the same response. Like someone else posted things work out for the best...

you have to go to local station to get on with egl , there suppose to pass on app to local station for them to work on it
but if you really what to get on with egl you have to go to station nearest you and work on it to get on keep bugging them until you do
they say i got on fast in three weeks it's taking up to 6 or 7 weeks for other

don't quit the other place until you get on with them as bank doesn't want to hear i can't make my payment etc
