RE: Whats the Best Expediting Co,

Thanks, but can anyone else answer this question for me.

The question wasn't "Is it the right time to get in?"
But thanks anyway, now I dont have to ask that question.

The only person that can decide if the time is right or not is me?

Please, Im looking for exact responses to the questions I asked.

Welcome to EO and welcome to the Open Forum!

Your question is like asking 10 people who are from 10 different states which state is the best place to live in. Don't get me wrong, you have a valid question and concern. But you have to keep in mind that their answers will be based on their experience and their perceptions.

Ten years ago this answer would have been allot easier. There were only a few main players in the game at that time. Now the choices seem almost unlimited.

Each company has it's own strong points. It depends on what matters to you. Most everyone has the same concerns like:

1. Home time
2. Revenue
3. Empty Miles
4. Fuel Cards (Comdata)
5. Dispatch System
6. Fleet Growth/Advancement
7. Insurance (Commercial/Personal)
8. Perks

So what I recommend to you is that you take some time and write down what you want. Note what type of unit you want to buy and how much revenue it will take to make all this happen. Now you know what you want and where you want to be in your first year of expediting.

Take that information and start to do some homework. Start communicating with the pros who do this everyday. This forum represents many Drivers and Owner Operators who know what it takes to be a success. Everyone will readily admit that these are tough and difficult times right now. But the people who participate in this Forum have learned how to lower their overhead, cut costs and survive.

I wish you well!

RE: Whats the Best Expediting Co,

In my opinion the best thing for you to do is to run on over to Alumi-Bunk and buy yourslf one of those fancy $100,000++ FL70's. Make sure you set it up to run White Glove for FedEx, because that is where the big bucks are. By all means sign on with FedEx because they are the biggest company out there, and have a very liberal Deadhead policy called "DVA". They are also the best company for someone with a can do attitude like you have, you won't have anybody trying to hold your hand with this company. The best part is, that for a person with your attitude, you should be able to produce a 6 figure income. Don't worry about what these naysayer's like Geo are trying to tell you. Just because Geo has been out there, what does he know, and I'm sure he doesn't have an attitude like yours. Go for it, you can do it, and make sure you keep us informed as to how it is going.

Well if your gonna go in here is my take that might keep your head above water.
Try to buy a used truck that is in good condition. A big truck payment will help dig your grave faster.

Keep your truck washed and polished. Do some detailing on it. This will show a prospective company your not a slouch and will take care of business.

Try to do the maintenance yourself. Thats if you have mechanical experience.

Look for a "local" company that will run your type of vehicle. There is a lot of "air freight" coming and going out of the airport.
Also two big Ford plants in that area.
Look in the sunday paper at ads and search to find someone that can use you.
And last but not least you better be ready to starve. This includes many things. Money, Home time, Food. And be able to control your action and thoughts or the stress will control you.

That was a nearly perfect response in my book. I couldn't have said it better myself. Great advice, suusageseller.
