What Would You Do?

Looks like 66% would take it,22% may or may not, and I'm the only definite no.
Don't want to hear you guys crabbing about guys running freight for .71.
Would this have been different than dead heading 20 miles and loading for .71 ?

Of course it's different. Everyone knows deadheading is like joyriding. I'd hafta agree with you; but I don't drive a van.

I don't think so. Middle of nowhere is middle of nowhere. Would I deadhead 20 miles to Belgrade, MT for .71 a mile to Detroit...instead of sitting over the weekend? Yup.

There are many ways to go broke in this business. Running too cheap is one of them. Sitting for several days in a non productive area demanding rates the same as you would get in a productive area is another.

If .71/mile was my avg rate for all miles...all the time, I would sell my van and do something else. But to get me out of a non productive area...over a weekend... and keep me from spending even more money while sitting...I would take it.

You dont drive a van do you? Taking the describe load for 71 has zero to do with 98 percent of the loads we normally do and nothing to do with someone running an average rate of 71 cents.

Well, IF I got stuck in nowhereville, yes, as my van is paid for and my total cpm is around .31 give/take on the cost of gas.

I don't see the big picture. You must drive 600 miles to get a load and take it 1500 miles. There are too many what if in this. I had a load a like that I had to drive 450 miles over a weekend I had to do it when you are a company driver there is no such thing as no you just go with no questions. I rolled to the picked up and on my way. I was tried as hell with only fours hour of sleep. When I thought I was almost done another dispatcher call me. Driver you have to find a place and sit I did now it is Monday. I have driven almost 2200 miles. The dispatcher call me back and said the load was not payed for so just sit there until we call you back that was Monday. I sat and now it's Friday again I have been sitting on this load the call came and now I had to take it back the shipper. The shipper was tried of waiting for money. Now I had drive to the shipper in the end I drove 3950 miles. It was a good pay check. Think if I for that load which contacted 1750 miles I would have lost more than what I made but I was company driver and the company lost on that deal. So look at the big picture. So if you have to drive 600 and one before they got to you don't have to look just smell. Thanks from Linda and Micheal

You have about 50 hours to drive 2100 miles, sleep, take a few breaks and make the pickuip. If you actually drove for 32 hours you would have to average 66 mph. Safe? no. I would probably pass, but I'm kind of lazy, or am I smart?

Drive 600 friday...take a nap before or after the pickup...or both depending on the p/u time.

Drive 750 sat night/sun morn....take a nap

Drive 750 sun night/mon morn...deliver.

Your in a van...adjust as needed. Its a job and you'll earn every penny of it...but its not impossible...its safe if managed correctly.
