Saw my first refer Sprinter yesterday. She was with Fed Ex CC and brought 3 small pallets to Memphis International Airport that I then flew to Charleston, SC. Nice set up with a Benz sleeper. Another one of the nice van/ sprinter folks I've met.

80 grand for that sprinter. was it hers or driving for someone?

Not really sure, but was set up really nice! Looks like it would be a really expensive unit. Really didn't get to talk to her much. As usual it was jump thru your a** and get there fast!

Did you say 80 grand for a Sprinter? Geez !! imagine the payment on that one!!! A Spartan body E-350 sounds better everyday!!! She could of bought 3 of those for what she paid for the 1 Sprinter.

almost twice the cost of a regular sprinter....that means they have to make at least 40G extra over the life of vehicle just to pay for the reefer let alone the extra maintenance ..with reefer loads....

I have been told twice now that these BR units are for one or two customers. One of them seems to be closing down more manufacturing plants in the near future, maybe by the end of the year.

The question that has been asked a few times is how does the owners get a decent ROI on these high priced units without some sort of 'favoritism' by the carrier because there can't be that much work on a consistent basis for small reefer units?

Not my comments but made by others.

sheesh...you guys telling all? Don't want no more rookies out here....Tell the real story...It is crappy right now...carriers loading van frieght on straights...days between loads and VERY low rates. Maintenaince costs sky rocketing and FSC not keeping pace with inflation....am going broke out here...

It's horrible, horrible I tell ya....I've been sittin in Chicagoland for almost 11 full days now...get out while you still can..

Oh the humanity ... looks like another van load going on my truck, for twice the amount them poor e-1 van drivers get.

I am sitting in an undisclosed place along the border of two states waiting for a load to get out of the Quality Control so I can take it and bring it to another undisclosed place.

I wonder who that E-1 sprinter was who followed me off the interstate?

Things are looking better this year. With that comes the danger that your carrier will go on a recruiting spree and dilute the wealth or that the some of the dirtbag type of independents will move into your turf still with low-ball rates and spoil the party.

Dirtbag= the independent guy who wants to chat it up at the truckstop only to use that info and go to your carrier and undercut its own contractors. He can do this because he is usually very unaware of his costs and if he has money for the buffet he thinks all is right with the world. Doesn't apply to anyone here....relax folks.

That is strong language against our independent buddies..who whizzed in your wheaties?

Someone? Moved into your turf? You have turf all your own?

You finding out the Feds don't care about you finally? the bubble has burst?

I think the Feds are moving away from the common cargo van and just have dock high and not have to worry about the small details and charge accordingly...vans are a pain...

No bubble burst here old man....my thoughts of how the Fed treats me have not changed. I never ever believed I held a special place in anyone's heart 'cept maybe my dog. How they feel about vans versus any other carrier is irrelevant, if I choose to come to that conclusion I can go get a bigger truck too. My thoughts about certain independent "friends" are mine, they are legit and call to the persons character, not his business. Business is business, and I can have my own opinions on that as well.

You actually think this "independent" would undercut your price just to bring cargo into Canada? I think not my fellow Canuck..it wouldn't be profitable..you know that...
It would far more prudent for this "independent to cut from under me and stay this side of the border....
