Impeachment (by the House) is meaningless unless the person affected is also convicted by the Senate. The conviction rate for presidents is currently 0 for two.
Were Al Gore’s chances of winning the 2000 election harmed by Bill Clinton’s impeachment? I don’t know. The race was awful close, though....
The constitution’s clause referring to High Crimes and Misdemeanors probably doesn’t cover banging a pornstar, tho. After all, how is Stormy Daniels different from a prostitute? She’s protected by California law*, that’s how.
*People v Freeman, CA Supreme Court, 1988. The US Supreme Court refused to review the case, so it stands in Cali as decided.
