What is a trip home?

5.7 hours?
6 mugs of coffee?
4 weigh stations?
2 accidents, 1 fatal?
18 miles of construction?
8" of snow?
blinding rain?
2 cans of Red Bull?
a 55 MPH state?
76 no repeat songs?
1 fast food stop?

We all do it. We all go home. However you guage your trip home, it's always the longest run.

But when you pull into town, before you notice everything the same, you'll notice the changes.

Someone's house is for sale.

The neighbor has a new car.

When you park the truck, someone is there waiting, a child, a lover, a mom or dad, sister or brother, or 26 phone messages and a bushel of mail. Wether it's the soft kiss of a child, a firm handshake from a friend, or a senseous hug from your mate, you know you were missed.

A short nap, a good meal and catching up on all you missed makes the past miles go away.

Until it's time to do it again.

after being out for 3 weeks and as I like to say living in a closet I always ask when I get home did we add on to the house as it always looks bigger.LOL and one thing I would like to add is why is it when you have been out for awile and ready to go home you always get a load passing thru your home town and have to keep driving right past it.I guess thats expediting.. P.S need to add something else to this post COCO after reading your post I did some math and you said you where driving in rain ,snow, a couple of accidents and road construction.I think you just told on your self because my math tells me that 335 miles at 5.7 hours comes up to 58.260 mile per hour average in a 55 mile a hour state .looks like safety will be wanting to talk to you .lol just joking great post and love your story's... BE SAFE!!!

One of our big ones was after running for weeks in the winter was to head home to FL knowing how much warmer it would be.

Isn't that the truth!!
Due to unusual circumstances, we've not been home since the beginning of Sept, and we're on a load right now that will take us painfully close to our house.

Painfully close, yep - I could hit the Ohio Turnpike exit with a rock thrown from my balcony, (if I didn't throw like a girl, anyway), and I've driven past my apartment several times, with a forlorn wave...but still, it's good to know it will be there when I do have time to take the exit.

Before I was local if I had a run that came thru my town ya can bet your Bippy that I was gonna stop in & see the house. That's a mandatory requirement in Homing Pigeon 101!! =)

I live right off the highway. I could stop in, reload up the soda/water, get a shower if I needed it, grab a quick meal, set the vcr for something I might have forgotten, just do all the little things ya can do at a truckstop but for a lot less money.

I figured I spent less time at my house than people do at truckstops unless they're only getting gas. By time they'd shop for what they wanted, waited in line & that kinda thing, chances are they were at the truck stop longer than I was home.

This is a pretty deep post. I'm not so sure I would say it's the longest run, though there's no question for me it was the most anticipated one in a lot of cases. At least if I didn't have to deadhead to get there.

I am so glad to be local. This post kinda made me appreciate it again (being local) one more time. Ya kinda forget what it's like to be out there. Thanx for the memory jog.
