when I started fuel was .93 per gallon I was paid $1.35 per mile
stand up and listen if you are running freight you need more money or goverment assistance or maybe even a charity type tax exempt status.

put on those caps someone out here has to have the right stuff to pull it off.if 100 mile freight is all we get so be it let them cross dock it.dont be a clown your not owned by anyone but you let yourself be bought and sold everyday by someone who wont remember you or the hard work you done for them 1 day after its completed

I met a guy in mississippi an owner op he was leased to a company a very large company out of TN. he is paid less than $1 per mile and is given a fuel card and charged back .69 per mile he is going broke and dont even know it I guess.

About hauling for high rates, you said, "if anyone else thought with there right head they would do the same then we would see how fast fuel prices would come down or the goverment would have to come up with some form of public aid for owner/ops."

The "if everyone did (thought) as I did" arguement has been around for a long time. If everyone believed in the same God I believe in, we would not have religous wars. If everyone voted like I vote, the country would be in better shape. If everyone shared their wealth, poverty could be eliminated. If everyone parked their vehciles for a day, fuel prices would drop. And, if everyone said no to cheap freight, there would be no cheap freight.

While each of these statements is probably true, the flaw is in the everyone part. Not everyone believes and acts like you believe and act.

Since we cannot enroll everyone in our own way of thinking, we must find other ways to get what we want. Regarding getting enough money out of expediting to make it worth your while, I don't see it getting any easier in the years ahead. At least that's the message from the old-timers who talk about past expediting being more lucrative than present expediting.

There may have been a time when the money was easy, and that meant a lot of business mistakes could be made and survived. As freight rates drop or hold steady, and as expenses increase, the room for error is decreasing. As the money goes down, the value of business skills and business planning will go up.

Let us know when you get that load that pays 3.59 a mile. Not saying it can't be done just interested to see how long it's gonna take.
