What happened to Eclipse Expediting?

One way for the broker or customer to rectify the issue of verifying IC insurance is very simple. That is, have the carrier send in the IC's Certificate of Insurance with each bid that he does. That way, the broker or customer can see for himself the IC's insurance, and then decide to award the bid or not. If there are any questions about the insurance, then they can be taken care of before the bid is awarded. This will clean up a lot of the bad boy carriers and bad boy ICs that do not have the proper insurance.
Just my 2 cents worth.

the thing with the "additional insured" rider....Progressive charges $20.00 for this BTW IS if I were to change my policy now in ANY way My carrier would get an email immediately informing them of a change...and I'd be toast IF it were any downgrade to the required policy.

on the downside of all this....it will literally wipeout single authority vans....as brokers have no way to confirm a proper policy is in place.....UNLESS the insurance company has the operator sign some kind of waiver that the broker could call and confirm a proper policy.

BUT the single operator if they have any partnerships could designate each carrier they get loads from as a "additionally insured" that would inform that broker/carrier of any change thus saving the little guy

so conspiracy theory aside..the big carriers have found away to get rid of the competition....
Not rid of the competition but rid of the ones that are running illegal and underinsured.

Not really. Single authority vans would be fully insured on the one policy and their would be no sub policies or any of that. They would be a "traditional" model carrier.

I personally don't think anyone's goal is to wipe out the single vehicle carrier that is properly insured. They generally represent capacity and haul for the other carriers vs being competition at direct shippers.

Do it legal, do it right.

A traditionally insured carrier that covers one unit or all its units itself is pretty easily monitored through some of the third party monitoring companies that brokers like us use.

We dont show a charge for an additional insured on any of the trucks and all of them have an addition on them or we are missing it somewhere.

You aren't carrying primarily liability so it wouldn't apply.

I was thinking it must be a double edged sword for load brokers.....they get cheaper rates this way and IF they want to make sure the loads are properly covered they are going to see (hopefully) rates go up a little to their customers

unfortunately... it won't be a cure all.....because there are lots of guys like me....that own their own van and have a LOW ...CPM.....all this really does is gets rid of (hopefully) the .60 - .70 cent runners....I think the overall industry will not see a really significient bump in rates...IMO

over the last year or so, primary auto liability rates already went up, as much as 60% or more for most in this business.

really I think what needs to happen is the fmcsa needs to make all carriers get brokerage authority at the same time they apply for carrier authority. a brokers bond cost less to get per year than
it cost to insure 1 d-unit. and the cost of the broker authority is the same as carrier authority. $300

I have progressive and the charge for the additional insured is only for the first 10 after that no extra charge

what is the purpose of having hired auto insurance if you have a scheduled auto policy?

but it would be good if all brokers also checked the insurance of all the various IC's that all the various carriers have doing loads for them.

that would take care of all the ones that dropped thru the cracks, and did not get checked by the monitoring companies.

you all could have your dispatchers do this each time a carrier sends in a bid (with the IC's insurance info) to them,
it would just take a few seconds and would save a lot of time and trouble down the road.

Wait....
What's wrong with the .60-70 cent runners? I mean, if it works for them, what's the problem?

A lot do monitor. But when the carrier doesn't ensure all their vehicles such as the multi's we don't have a way of seeing or monitoring the sub policy which may or may not cover depending. So often they are not valid or correct policies and coverage would be denied in the event of an accident or incident.
