what companies are good and who to stay away from?

I am new to the business and started working with a company that told me if I put on my truck with them I would be real busy. that was a few weeks ago, and It has been real slow. Haven't worked for a few days. I am in the Windsor Ontario area, and already looking to switch companies. I talked to Elite transportation and they told me they are busy. So my question is what do you guys recommend here in the Windsor ontario area?
Is Roaring good? Elite? CtX?

is it better to get paid a percentage of the mile rate or the load?

Why not go with Fed Ex,I know they could keep you busy doing the cross border thing.
