We were on our way to Texarkanna and had to pass thru Memphis.
Unfortunately I was approaching Memphis at 4pm on Friday the 7th of March.
I was about 100 miles out when things got snowy. Six hours later I pulled into J in W Memphis. I saw 20-25 vehicles either in ditches or involved in wrecks, just on my side of 40 going west.
I told Fedex I'm not moving until it clears. They kind of said okay, I had a Sat. delv. in
Texarkanna. 1am I checked 40, it was closed, 3 am I checked again it was open but according to ArDOT "snowy".
We headed off being the good soldiers we are and made all the way to Welcome Center,
no more than a few miles down 40. Traffic was at stand still so we pulled in and sat until 10 am. Started up again and made all the way to Texarkanna. Pulled in at 7:15. 230 some miles in a little over 9 hours.
Along the way we keep awake by counting the sites off road where some-one lost control
and landed in the median or right edge. We mostly saw the torn up turf from skidding wheels and tow trucks. Linda recorded over 150 sighting and quit counting once we passed Little Rock.
Most of the delays encountered on this nice sunny 45 degree day were due to the numerous
TT still over-turned waiting for crews to help upright them. They would shut down both lanes and we would wait.
Linda snapped pictures of 6 such events. A news report I heard said over 1500 accidents statewide.
All in all a scary scenario.
As i write this, it is 62 and sunny here in Texarkanna.
What a contrast.
I hope you and yours all made it safely thru the past winter storms.
