Western States expediters?

Wow, what a great forum. Lots of very good advice for a newbie. Every time I come up with a new question and consider a post I find the advice somewhere on the site.

One thing that is not to mentioned to often is (western states). I'm located in MN and would prefer to make runs to the west. Hard to believe there is not a lot freight coming and going from Cal./ Tex ect.

Anyone have advice or thoughts on this?

Thanks to all who takes the time to teach.

The bulk of freight is certainly east of the Mississippi. White Glove trucks with Fedex do well no matter where they run. Going west as a single usually is a disaster as the miles deadheading kill you, and your log book. Good luck and I hope you find your niche.

White Glove is a "higher" class of expedited service offered by Fed-ex custom critical. It is a premium service which often involves things such as lift gate delivery, temperature controled tranport, things like that. It also brings a premium price to the truck as far as pay is concerned.
I do not contract for FECC.(fed ex custom critical) so I do not know the details, but others here may be able to fill you in.
Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

Service Prerequisites FedEx Custom
Critical White Glove Services contractors
are selected from current Surface Expedite
contractors. To be considered to make the
move to White Glove Services, you must
meet the following guidelines:
• At least six months of service
with Surface Expedite
• 98 percent on-time pickup and
delivery service
• No accidents
• No cargo claims
• 70 percent availability
• Above average load acceptance percentage
• Recommendations from Surface Expedite or
White Glove Services team members
Priority Order
We receive numerous requests from our
contractors looking to join White Glove
Services, so we must prioritize the candidates
based on their qualifications. Here is the
priority list that we use to determine who
will receive immediate consideration, with
“1” receiving top priority.
1. FedEx Custom Critical teams with verifiable
prior experience handling high-value products,
explosives, radioactive materials or other
related credentials. These teams must also
have six months of verifiable Surface Expedite
service with exceptional service and
safe-driving records.
2. FedEx Custom Critical contractor teams who
have been recommended by their CAT facilitator,
CAT member or existing White Glove Services
contractor.
3. FedEx Custom Critical contractor teams
with temperature-control units that meet all
equipment specifications. (See “Equipment
Requirements.”)

who become contractors and possess properly
equipped White Glove units and all the
necessary care-in-handling equipment.
5. White Glove Services contractors who need to
replace their White Glove qualified drivers.
6. White Glove Services contractors who wish
to add additional units to the White Glove
Services fleet.
TEMP-ASSURE®
Fleet Requirements:
Temperature-Controlled Units
• Temperature range from –20° to 80° Fahrenheit
with a tolerance +/- 6.6° Fahrenheit (3° Celsius).
• QUALCOMM Temperature Monitoring (Tethered
Trailer Tracs)
• Temperature recording device
• A minimum of four temperature probes for
trailers and two for straight trucks (although
four probes is suggested for all vehicles)
WG Recruiting Specs3 1/19/04 8:51 AM Page 7
Carrier vs. Thermo King
If you decide to install a temperature-control
unit, you will have a choice in manufacturers.
Here is a quick comparison of two major
producers of temperature-control units:
Carrier
These units should already have the immediate
ability to share communication protocols
with QUALCOMM. This allows FedEx Custom
Critical to monitor real-time temperature in
transit. Please ensure the proper communication
devices are installed if you choose a
Carrier unit. A temperature-recording device
will need to be installed. This device must
have the ability to print a receipt in timed
intervals of 15 minutes. It must have a minimum
of four hard-wired thermocouple temperature
probes (three fixed and one movable is
recommended).
Thermo King Units
These units may require additional
communications hardware such as a Data
Acquisition System (DAS). The DAS also
has the capabilities of a monitoring device
and a recording device.
There are other vendors offering comparable
equipment that meet our requirements.
Please check with your dealer to ensure
proper communications devices are installed.
Monitoring Device Requirements
National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) certificate must be
submitted with each temperature monitoring
device. The certificate must show NIST
traceability indicating:
• Reference Equipment
• Probe Channel
• Reference Reading
• Actual Reading
• Variance
• Allowance ±
• Calibration Date
• Next Calibration Due Date
• As Found Condition
• As Left Condition
• Serial Number of Monitoring Device
• Performed By
Certificate of Calibration for the Temperature
Control Unit is needed every six months or
as required due to performance deviation.
The calibration should include:
• Location of Calibration
• Performed By
• Results
• Date
• FedEx Custom Critical trailer number
