Running for fedup I completely understand where you are comming from.

I agree. I run a solo D unit and never go west of the Mississippi. Everytime I did the first few years, it was always DH back to St. Louis. I dropped the western 11 states from my apportioned plates to save some bucks since I never got that way.

In addition, I try to stay North of I-40 when possible. I do much better staying out of the South.

Ok OVM, here is the poop, the whole poop and nothing but the poop. South Dakota, 1,100 square miles of water within it's boundries. Michigan has over 40,000. Michigan has more than 36,000 miles of river and streams. I can't find the figure for South Dakota.

Frozen water! It is too friggin cold up there and not meant for human habitation.

Why sit your frozen butt on the cold ice waiting for a fish to come by?? You could live in FL and actually use the water. Spend the day surfing, skiing, sailing or go deep sea fishing etc.
:D

Back to the subject. With the Fed in a D unit reefer we have had no problems heading west and getting back. Our return is almost always DOD or reefer, so that makes the difference with us.

Geesh OVM I didn't mean that west of 35 was bad. Just sayin in general I said life was good not great. As in manageable.... I was also think 35 went north where 29 does so that's my bad. And whens the last time you were west of rockies??

Thanks for straightening me out on that one...:D

I don't do west of the Rockies, not my comfort zone...But that is my choice...I'll live with it...;)

Taking the population difference into consideration...at least you can have the water almost to yourself...;)

When I was a Polly in a s/t I did extremely well running out west, and loved every minute of it.But now in a van I am trying to stay in the more heavily populated freight areas, being what I believe to be east of 35.Sitting and waiting for a load is alot more tolerable in a s/t vs a van.

It would most likely have something to do with the Carrier, or more precisely the load hunting crew of the Carrier. The importance of a Companys effort to network with the freight world cannot be over emphasized. If you are with a company of telephone anserwers and board watchers, versus a company of telephone users and board searchers, the the difference in results can be significant. Seems when you nix a Company for one reason, you should prolly nix the next Company for anuther reason. Seems the don't wannas will ALWAYS get you in the end.

You put the nail on the head.

I drive a B unit, so that's some of the challenge. I work for Metro now, but even when I worked for 2 companies simultaneously before the challenge was the same.

Metro has some pretty good dispatchers from what I can gather. From what I can tell they're pro-active. They're the ones who told me to stop in Tn (from that satellite post). There was one mix up in communication yesterday, but that was my fault.

I appreciate the comments. From the comments on here & my recent experiences I'm inclined to think it's just better business to stay east of the Mississippi for the most part.

Danny, how long did you have to sit before you moved?
